Subject: KRC racing cams for 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: I talked to Marty at KRC today about the racing cams he's working on for the 4.7. It sounds like they aren't going to do much good for low end. He says he's designing them for 4000 rpm+ launches. Anyone heard anything promising from anywhere else about good cams for the 4.7?

Message: 4000 RPM launches??!!! Won't do us auto tranny folks any good. No converters out there with high lockup points much less it'd be a bear to drive in traffic. I'm gonna hold out for the ones from Hughes. There's been a few posts that say they have them in the works.

Message: Won't do the 5spd guys much good either unless we don't mind go through clutches and rearends. Dunner already went through this from what I understand.

Message: No, that was Matt Barret. The motor that KRC is developing will make 330-350 hp and it will rev to about 7500 rpm. It really won't start making power until about 4000 rpm. It's really just going to be an aggressive race motor that will be a turd to drive on the street.
I basically envision taking a Reg Cab 4.7 truck with a 5-spd and stripping it of any extra weight and dropping in this hopped up 4.7 kit. Apparently, as he is developing this 350 hp motor, Marty is fulling planning on hitting it with nitrous.
So, picture a stripped RC truck that weighs in at about 3400 or 3500 lbs with driver with a built Dana 60 rear, some gears and lots of traction trickery that will rip off some mid 12's on the motor. If you don't strip the truck and run it at 3900 lbs (basically stock), you will see low 13's. Add a 100-shot of juice and you are in the 12.0 range.
Just be prepared to keep a fresh tranny on hand and some extra rear-end pieces in the glove box with you.

Message: Oooops I was using my hp/et calculator wrong. Let's say you should add half a second to the numbers I just posted. Stripped, you will see 13.0's on the motor. Stock weight, you will see 13.7's. Juiced, at full weight, you could see some 12.5's........
Still a boomboom combo if you think about it. A 287ci pickup truck running mid twelves on a 100-shot. WoooHooo......

Message: I don't know what company I saw the add for but, someone else was making a cam for the 4.7.
I've got a 01 4x4 dakota quad cab (5500 lbs), I added an Airaid intake system, the PowerTower throttle body spacer, Jet stage 2 chip, and B&M trick shift fluid, PepBoys Mud tires.
First, I'm looking for an affordable set of headers. I'd like the cam when it comes out.
I raced the truck a few weekends at the MudDrags here in San Antonio, TX. In the stock class.
The only trucks that gave me trouble were not stock.
For a small motor in a heavy truck. I put 4-5 truck lengths on stock and jacked up Z-71's and
F-150's in 240 ft of deep mud.

Message: 4PLAY is the truck!
I haven't had a dyno. WHY? Do you think the chip hurt? I think the muffler hurt it. The tires hurt on the street but, in the mud and off road is what matters.
I think the headers will make up for all of that.
I've been reading a lot and now I don't know if I should get the shorty headers. What other ones are there, how much and where do you get them? I also want the same info for the cams.
What kind of HP do you think I'm pushing?
4.7 - Airaid intake system, the PowerTower throttle body spacer, Jet stage 2 chip, Flowmaster 50 series, and B&M trick shift fluid, PepBoys Mud tires.
As mentioned about the NON-stock trucks that only ones that were a problem were (Blazers, Bronko's w/o tops, and shortbeds with 400+ci, cams and parts that should DQ them from the class. If they can have those mods and missing body parts. I can play that game also.

Message: I've seen 2 different Dyno results for the Jet Stage II, and both shows about a 9 - 10 HP loss with the JET as aposed to no JET. It shows an initial throttle response and then a he11 of a drop off. Let me know if you want to see both I will post them for you.
