On the Dodge website is a link to locate a dealer. The link takes you to the dealers website which usually (if it is a decent size) will have a inventory of all of its new trucks. I searched through the inventories of about five dealers in the IE of California for a month before I found exactly what I was looking for.

2002 4.7L CC 2WD with all the options and two tone patriot blue and silver paint. Dude, its sweet.

*Or you could just call the dealer and he'll probably do it for you five times faster. Be careful about trusting the salesman though. They're shady silver tongued devils.

Newbie,

NUTS OF FIRE, huh, Stock R/T or 4.7L 5 Speed w/3.92's. I would say the 4.7L 5 Speed W/3.92's w/Locker.
Stock 1/4 mile times nearly equal or equal. Torque difference Minimal considering auto vs manual drive line losses, HP differences, none with drive line Losses. A lot of good upgrades are coming available for the 4.7L in the near future. BIG KICKER, FUEL MILAGE, R/T 14 City, Lucky 17 Highway, 4.7L, 5 Speed, 17 City, 20+ Highway.
Look on Torquemonsters face when you dust his butt, Priceless.

Lynn,

I'm getting on average 18 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway cruising at 65 MPH with a 4.7L auto 4x4. I gained highway mileage when I had the fiberglass tonneau cover put on. Not bad, but not great either.

Still beats the R/T for fuel milage and there is very little difference in performance. And 25 MPG highway is great for any truck, my 4.7L DAK gets 20.26 MPG @ 70 MPH done this little trick last night for 107 boring slow Autobahn miles just to see what it would get upon return to the USA in a couple months.

I just got real lucky and the dealer down the road about 30 min from the house had 2 on the lot. A red one and a black one. I bought the Black 02 CC R/T. When I got it home i went to dokota-durango.com and did all of there "free" or close to it mods cause i thought it was a dog after riding in my buddies 4.7. His has just about all the cheap mods for it i.e. (intake, exhaust, chip, etc.) And it runs good. Now that i have done the free stuff to mine it runs good enough for now. ;) Good luck with whatever you decide.

And Who really cares about the gas mileage. YOUR TRYIN TO GO FAST IN A TRUCK WITH THE AERODYNAMICS OF A 2X4 IN THE WIND!!!!!!! You want good gas mileage? buy a 65 vw beetle that gets 50 mpg. Everyone knew what they where gettin into when they where tryin to buy a truck ......Its no suprise!!!

And also it dosn't matter if its got a stick or not. It matters if YOU can run with a stick or not! I beat a 98 AWD turbo eclipse , stock to stock, with my 5.2 auto truck because he couldn't figure out his sweet spots. we swaped cars for fun(GOOD FRIEND!) and I waxed my own truck (Whos ever done that one!). I say go test drive both, see whats more your idea as a better set up! Most car dealers are pretty cool with you romping around a little bit bacause ...well...... your trying to buy a really fast truck! Wouldn't you want to know how fast it really is? Most understand that! Just be carefull, They're "shady silver tongued devils" that might have keys to your new truck.

All you really want to test is a
A. 4.7 Auto with 3.92 rear gears(for a base comparison)
B. 4.7 manual with 3.92 gears
C. 5.9(R/T) that comes with 3.92 gears

All in all unless you want to WAIT around for peformance parts go with the R/T... Good part about it is Mopar performance has alot of power parts that "claim" to not void warrenties.

GO BUY A FURKING FORD LIGHTNING, IF YA WANT NUTS OF FIRE. Seein as that MONEY is not the concern.
You failed to see the whole point, period.
POWER (NUTS) are developed trough FUEL + AIR = BURN. The more fuel and air combined within a combustion chamber the more explosion the more down thrust the more power. If the 4.7L builds as much or more power with less fuel and air, then when you can match the fuel and air ratio of the 5.9 then you will be developing more power on a shorter throw = faster Revs more quick lowend to midrange power.

Not gonna get into the whole 5.9/4.7/5.2 is better argument. I see your theory. But the overall is that 4.7 & 5.9 are pretty much the same. Just one is smaller than the other. Thats why I say test them both out. And don't knock those Lightings. I would trade my truck in a heartbeat IF I could find one at a decent price.

Hey, I know I'm not very inteligent. I'm a Network Administrator for a very large Computer network, ex-truck driver for 17 years. I didn't post for info on if the DODGE DEALER would have to order an R/T, or needin' NUTS of FIRE 'cause I wasn't born with any.

I walked into the DODGE DEALER and dropped my Configuration Sheet with my Specs on it in front of the salesman and gave them the $10,000 down payment Bank Draft so they could order it. I did respond with my ignorance JB.

Can't resist this one.

We've one guy here where price is apparently no object ("I'd be happy with 8 mpg"). But he just wants a STOCK Dak. And a Dak no less [instead of a Lightning, or something w/ a V-10 in it]. Uh-huh.

What else? Some guy who figures that mileage is unimportant just because you drive a pickup. -If that were true, we'd all be driving supercharged 460s with a lot more steel in them.

In reality it's actually a good deal to get as much power and torque out of a gallon of gas as possible. And do it with a relatively cheap and durable engine. I'd sure like to get a new 4x4 Dak with a 5.7 hemi getting 28 mpg, that costs 12,000 dollars. Delivered. But you know what? Even though it might not happen today, it's a pretty good target. And if everyone keeps pushing in that direction, and working on the problem, maybe we'll get close in a couple of years. (Look what happened in the computer industry).

where I live dodge dakotas are the in thing, and ford lightnings are for fat, retired, harley-d jokers (please do not respond to this comment hics).

so maybe I can start this stupid forum all over.

Alright, fair 'nough.

Let's see if we can get the parameters of your wish list down solid, first.

As I understand, it has to be a new Dak, could be modified (but by the dealer [or a specialty shop contracted out by him?]). Price not so important. Running costs not so important.

That brings up some interesting possibilities. There's already been a V10 conversion done by at least one person; with photos somewhere on this board. Why don't you have someone coordinate the project, that would involve ordering a new Dak with the correct basics, as well as a new V10 in a crate, any chassis modifications, and electronics. Could be good. Custom shops love that sort of problem.

Post a few pictures here after you get it done, OK?

well im not rich, all I said was that I can afford gas. I single, no kids, no bf, just out of college with my first job. this job pays about enough to live, buy a new truck, and enough gas money to drive from New York to L.A. every month.

I have it in my mind that I deserve a nice NEW truck. And I have been wanting a solid color dakota ever since i first saw one.

All I want to do is buy a supercharger kit for it (including everything required to make it run/stable with that). From researching on this website I have determined that R/T's are the way to go, and ppl with 4.7's are going to have a 10-yr old truck by the time decent mods actually come out, and cheap. R/T seems tried and true, and besides if I can get a sc'd R/T to beat a F-Lightning then well its worth it right there.

you guys are right, if I want to go fast I should buy a lightning...but I think it looks like a lowered ranch beater :)

I guess this week I'll go have one ordered. BUT here is where you guys can help me out, I need to find a website where I can pre-price the invoice before I start the process with the shady-snake toothed vermen.

out

Newbie,

If you go to the DODGE site and put in under the Build My Vehicle the DAKOTA 4X2 Sport Plus or 4X2 Club Cab Sport Plus, then change the Engine to the 5.9 it will Change the Option package Automatically to the R/T group. Then Price out the other options that you want or can afford. I priced one out and for the way I would want it or close to my Dakota 4.7L C/C Sport+ it would be $28,000, nearly $5,000 more than I payed for Mine. WO!

Good Luck,

If you're driving from NY->Los Angeles [and return] EVERY MONTH on your salary, you'd better get the 4.7 4x2 with 3.55 gearing and a 5-speed. And a box cover, and basic inexpensive mods that will increase the mileage even by 1/2 mi per gallon.

Unless you have some sort of arrangement with someone who's paying your gasoline credit card for you.

(Even the logistics of the driving are mind-boggling. If you push it, each round trip will take a week; and even that's if you don't DO anything in LA once you get there. -Your job gives you a week off every month? Or is driving part of the job? In which case THEY should be paying your gas bill, and mileage too; which wouldn't be so bad.)

I have a new 2002 4X4 Quad Cab Sport with the 5.9. I am aware of poor fuel ecomony. Is there an after market product or set of products that will help improve fuel economy and at the same time increase performance? The dealer advised that some dual exhaust systems actually worsen fuel economy. Are there any that improve it? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul
