how much work is involved in replacing that pump? Do I have to mess with the timing chain/belt like my old rice burner??? BTW its a 99 V8 5.2

You do not have to mess with the timing chain.A water pump replacement is time consuming but not difficult. You are unbolting a lot of parts to access the pump this is the bulk of the work. you should also repl tour stat, hoses and flush the radiater at the same time.
