I have a friend with a 4.7 in his dakota and my 95 dakota 4x4 has a 5.2 in it and he's always trying to tell me that his engine could spank me anyday of the week but his truck is 4x2 and regualr cb so it does no good to drag em so which do you guys think is the faster engine?

As a 5.2 owner I hate to say it but his 4.7 2wd will pretty much spank the hell out of you 5.2 4wd considering they are both stock and you guys know how to drive em'
Now, I do feel you have the better motor(considering it is sound) because with all the bolt ons that are available for it now, look out. Plus its a 4x4, my personal favorite.

I'm a biased 4.7 owner,,,,,,but if they were similiar trucks (both 4x2's, rc, same tranny),,I think it would be close,,,,
But I'd say they 4.7 would take you. In your situation,,the 4.7 would definately walk away from you.

Yeah I agree would be a close race.The 4.7 does have a better set up than the 5.2L. I think the new tranny helps the 4.7 alot over the 5.2 but the low end id better in the 318. Just my 5.2 cents!!

if your looking for torque than go with the 5.2 if your looking for speed than I'd go with the 4.7. I dont care what style trany you got. The 4.7 over head design is a much faster reving engine and has higher RPM's than the 5.2 . My truck has the 5.2 and I pull my boat around and I like the torque. The 318 was around for many years and has its flaws but also has proven itself!!! Good luck with the 4.7 . You can keep it!!! 5.2 is a mans' truck. LOL 99 slt ext. cab solid RED w/ 5.2 ,5 spd, 4x4

Do you feel that the Quad Cab runs better with the 4.7 or the 5.9, or just more power in the larger displacement? Have you driven both? I haven't driven any (hopefully get out this weekend for a round of test drives, wheelin and dealin..HAHA!), so I appreciate any replies.

quad cab will last longer with the next gen
SOHC motor. The 360 is an old iron head
beast. It may have better displacement and
more horses, but the 4.7 is lighter and
quicker. There's a reason why most dodge
and jeeps are being produced with the 4.7
motor. Why would they spend so much
money developing a new motor, if it wasnt
going to be better than the 5.9????

D, I thought Dodge spent so much money developing the 4.7 to be better than the 5.2, not the 5.9 because thats what it replaced. Isnt the 5.9 going to be replaced with a 5.7?

I have had both the 5.2 and now I have the 4.7 What a difference. 4.7 has a better sound to me and seems quicker. comparing my 99 to my 02 with the exact same options.

I am going to get some redline at tranny fluid and have my fluid changed because my truck when sitting in traffic shifts kinda hard going from 1st to 2nd has any one else done this or have this problem? 99cc5.23.92at2wd

The 4.7 cost alot to make , has cheap pistons and a plastic intake?? The 5.2 is real easy to mod------over 300hp with $1800 in bolt-ons , add heads and a cam 360hp+. Just my 2 cents.

Owning both and both are bone stock I can tell you the 4.7 has more useable power on the street. The gearing of the tranny is such to take advantage of the narrow torque curve.
