Subject: TRANS REBUILD 44RE IP: Logged
Message: has anyone here rebuilt the tranny on a '98 with a 44RE? this brings another question. what is the 44RE. this is what the build sticker said i have, but i have never seen this number anywhere else. is this a A500, A518 or what?
if you have do you think that it was relitively easy, no prob., hard, or impossible?
thanks,
nathaniel

Message: i will let you know as soon as i start repairing my transmissin, and where to get the best prices for things, my trans blew out and nothing above 2nd gear works, i will probab have to change out the torque converter pump..... overhaul kit, total is about 800 in parts from the dealer. It is probably a 44RE that is what i have in my 98 dodge durango, you can also ask the dealer they can run your vin number.

Message: 44RE is a descendant of the 904/A500 line. It's actually a 42RE with beefed up internal parts.
