Subject: Replacing tires! Any suggestions? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 01 regular cab dakota w/ the 4.7L, 2WD. The stock tires are the Goodyear Eagle L/S P255/65R16. Those are worn pretty good and i want to replace them. I was wondering if anybody has replaced their tires and what brand did you get? Any suggestions and input is greatly appreciated.

Message: I've been looking into replacing the rears on mine, the ones I'm currenty looking at are:
BF Goodrich Sport Truck T/A LT315/55R16-D (discontinued, if anyone can find them let me know), that size probably won't fit on the front though, the 285/60's will though
Pirelli Scoprion Zero P275/60R16
Goodyear Eagle NASCAR P285/60R16
The Eagle LS tires are good touring tires, but they're a bit conservative for the torque that the V8 Dakotas put out.

Message: Haven't replaced mine yet but when I do I am gonna go with either Pirelli Scorpions(275/60-16) or Kumho Exstas(255/65-16) Also toying around with a set of BFG T/A's(295/50-16) but I'm afraid they might rub on the front.. Hope this helps a little.. BTW those pirelli's are the same height as the stockers...they are looking pretty good for me...

Message: If you do some off roading and towing you realy do want a truck tire. The BFGoodrich are about as good as they get for all around performance on a truck. The only down side to BFGoodrich is that they tend to wear quicker then the competition. I have always liked the Desert Dueller. The scorpions are more for HWY driveing. If you never plan on off road or towing heavy loads you should consider a something more like a car tire. Something that will give you a quite ride, good traction and wear and will clear alot of water out of the way. I have had good luck with sears brand Truck A/T and M/T tires. My last set I got 65,000 miles of them before they faile the Lincoln Penny Test they were 31x10.50.

Message: If you plan on staying with the stock rim size and overall tire size your chooses are very limited. You also have to worry about load ratings of potential tires especially if you haul loads often. Yokohama makes AVID S/T tires in sizes 245/70-16 and 265/70-16 that look like a nice performance oem up-grades(www.yokohamatire.com). Mickey thompson make baja hp tires in 29x9.5,30x9.5, and 31x10.5 that are street tires with thier shoulder treads for looks and traction(www.mickeythompsontires.com). You might want to check-out sites like (www.tirerack.com and www.tires.com for comparisons of models and prices). Hope this helps and good luck!
