The detroit locker keeps the wheels locked together (except when turning) so that together the left and right wheels, always deliver maximum traction to the ground; neither wheel can spin out. Limited slip type differentials like the sure grip provide a controlled amount of resistance to a one-wheel spinout, so that the other wheel (with traction) receives sufficient power to keep the vehicle moving. These discriptions are from the detroit web site (www.tractech.com) Basicly lockers are all or nothing heavy duty race/off-road oriented. While most limited slip diffs. are gradual in thier application of power to the other wheel, and are generally designed for moderate horsepower use. "It is a hard choice that I stuck between myself. I have read that the locker is noisy and sudden in it's operation. The only cons for the limited slip that I've seen is that it wears out and needs rebuilding(how long depends on power and how bad you abuse it). I have seen the left rear tire on trucks burning out at the track get traction and turn the limited slip back to an open diff.(tire traction over powered the clutches in the unit)

for serious race applications, go with a locker.
for everyday use, and mild race apps, go with
the limited slip.
