Subject: 4.7 headers? IP: Logged
Message: I have an 02 dakota sport extended cab 4.7 5 speed. My qestion is I read some messages posted on the board about installing headers on a 4.7 and loosing low end torque. Is this true? If so how much? Is it really noticable? Also anyone who has installed headers on a 4.7, how does it sound? I know when I installed them on my 79 camaro it sounded mean, but that was with no cats. Any info on this subject would be much appreciated. thanks.

Message: i read in many posts that headers dont show much gain at all on the 4.7.....stockers flow pretty well so the gain wasnt worth 350-600 bucks

Message: All the sound and performance improvments came from the catback the headers just kind of smoothed it out, no real gain or loss from the headers.
Gibson headers, Gibson Cat-back, Edelbrock IAS shocks, K & N drop in, 180 stat, Jet stage II chip, ARE Lid

Message: Bob W you should try a high flow cat I think you would be very impressed.
My dream exhaust system would be headers, 2.25" Y-pipe, 3" from there to tailpipe. I have already been asking around about it. I have a guy that will build a 2.25" to 3" collector for me but he is on holidays right now.

Message: I installes the JBA with the 2 1/2 crossover and the dynomax muffler with the high flow cat,Picked up 7 RWHP and about 2 1/2 MPG,Sounds great,I first just installed the headers with the stock exhaust thats a No No!Don't go over the 2 1/2 inch pipe,3in is to much and you lose low end.

Message: Torque is not a problem I have seen Duners dyno graphs and if I loose some torque so be it that exhaust was worth lots on the top end. Everyone told me I would loose torque with the mods I have now. I obviously didn't listen. This thing pulls my 5000lb holiday trailer (lots of suface area) in fifth. I want to set up my truck to go turbo or supercharged someday as well.

I have a 2001 Dakota quad cab, silver, leather, 4.7 auto, cold air intake, removed 3rd cat, straight pipe out to back. It sounds mean now but I got the headers with hopes of making it sound better ;)

Message: Them shorty headers, or did you find some long tubes?
I want long tubes but don't want to pay $500. What a rip off I've seen so far!
I'm tempted to make my own.
If someone made long tube for around $200 I'd buy them.

Message: They are the shorty ones, headers on a 4.7 are a real pain to get on, i started on my passenger manifold and I gave up so now I'm waiting until fall when its cooler b/c in New Orleans now its like 105 with heat factor

Message: I looked up at my manifolds. Looks like popping the plastic wheel well out would make quick access to the manifold bolts.
