Subject: Really dumb question... IP: Logged
Message: Are those really the spark plugs?
I have a 2001 4.7L and can only figure that the spark plugs are in/under the vertically mounted plastic things on top of the heads, each is bolted down with two little wires coming out of the top of each. They are numbered. But the wires are tiny for spark plug wires, and the front one on the pass. side is under the A/C tubes, how do you get that one out?
HELP!!! Am I looking at the right things?

Message: Yes, you are looking at the right things. The spark plugs on the 4.7 each have their own individual coil.

Message: How about the one under the A/C tubes, do you use a universal joint(or 2) on your socket?

Message: I just did mine a couple weeks ago
take a thin flat head screw driver and unclip the plastic brackets. (there are two that are actually attached to the intake plenum) I unbolted mine from the intake. then there is one that isn't mounted to anything it just keeps the two together on the passenger side. be careful when removing this one, I dropped mine and it fell onto the inside of the front facia. then on the pass side the two lines snap into coaster things only one will pop out, the other feeds into the compressor and there's not too much room for movement. now your all freed up, granted you removed the air filter stuff.
The coil/wires, don't snap on like the original style. once the plug is in, push the boot and coil over and just get it down far enough to start the nut that holds it down, and draw it tight. there's a spring instead of a clip.
this was new for me too
