Subject: Error code 12 - pcm prob?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 97 Dakota and the Check Engine light is on. When I check it by turning the ignition on, off, on, off, on, I get error code 12 - battery power to pcm disconnected. I checked the wires and everything looked good. I thought maybe that it could be due to the 160 t-stat I put in, but it still does it with a 180. I reset the pcm, but the light comes back on after around 250 miles. Has anyone seen this before?

with regards to the stumble I went to speedtweaks.com and came across something called distributor indexing I have not tried it yet but while I was under the hood I noticed that my battery connections were corroded I cleaned them and have noticed the stuble seems to have gone!!!!!????? I don't know if this gave the "required" power to the pcm but I will see and let you all know. Als has anyone heard that after the battery is disconected that it takes 15 start cycles before you can access any new codes?
thanks and hope this is helpfull. Planenut89

Same problem with my 97 Dakota, "error code
12" PCM power disconnected within last 50
starts. My problem is the truck has degrading
fuel efficiency, getting too much fuel on idle.
I've installed a new throtle positioning sensor,
didn't help. No idea what to try next.
Sometimes gets so much fuel it floods on
start. It's going to be forsale soon!

Jay = injectors bad - leaking
or O2 sensor
but - check fuel pressure on rail before start..
If no pressure = an injector or more than one are leaking,...
