Subject: Do I have 3.55 gears?

Message:
I just bought a used 2000 cc slt V8 dakota and I'm wondering if it came with 3.55 gears. Do they come stock on a SLT. If they don't and the owner before me ordered 3.55 with the truck is there a way to find out by driving it or looking under the truck? do 3.55 gears make a great difference compared to stock gears?

check the tag on the rear end. (driver side of
the differential.) if not, there should be a tag in
the glove box, or on the side of the drivers
door.

with V8's, they come stock with 3.55 gears.
3.92 gears are an option, unless its an R/T,
then its standard.

to add to D's post, it probably has the stock gears, but if you want to make sure, jack the rear up, spin the tire one full rotation, and count the number of driveshaft rotations.

3 1/2 times = 3.55's
almost 4 turns = 3.92's

Where can you get 3.92's? About how much would it cost to make the switch?

So the V8's come stock with 3.55 gear ratios. I thought it was 3.21 stock!

I don't know anything about the 3.21's but the V8's at least the newer ones come standard with 3.55's and 3.92's as a $40 option (at least it was on my 2002 4x4) and of course if your talking R/T, they come standard w/3.92's.

I wish I would have opted for the $40 upgrade,
before I bought it...cost me close to $200 for
3.92's. (not including labor)
