Which cold air intake system for a 2000 4.7 is better airaid or the KN? Does anyone have proof or firsthand experiance of which works better or if the even work at all. I have flowmaster exhaust and I hear that an intake system will help work together for horsepower gain.

Neither. Go with an Intense Performance with Z-tube. www.intenseperformance.com. Better product and awesome customer service.

I agree with Glenn. I've got the Z-tube with a 9" powerstak filter. I've teamed that up with a 68mm Fastman throttlebody and a Gibson sweptside single outlet catback. I'm very happy with the sound and performance, especially since my 4x4 clubcab weighs in at over 4800 lbs!!

Well, if you are going that far, I also have the Fastman 68mm TB and MBRP muffler from Premiere Automotive. The sound is loud and awesome. As long as you go with a new intake, TB, and flow through type muffler you can't go wrong. It all depends on the sound you want as far as what muffler to go with. Don't skimp on the TB or intake though, Fastman and Intense Performance all the way.

sounds good! How much does a 68mm TB cost? Are they hard to install? I'm not too experianced with these engines and don't really eant to screw around with all the computer systems in these engines. Would labor be expensive?

Check out www.thefastman.com for the cost of the TB, but I think it is about $225. Install is simple and can be done by anyone. Instructions are very easy to follow. The intake is also very easy to install, just have to follow instructions. None of these mods requires messing with the computer.

I would definitly go with the INTENSE PERFORMANCE Stage II or III. I have the stage III, and it is way better than airaid. The sound is much better, and the performance gain is alot higher.

Regarding Airaid vs. K&N: For various
reasons I ended up with an Airaid intake on
my 2000 R/T CC and it's not that great. First of
all the stock airhat is retained whereas the
K&N unit includes a new aerodynamic airhat
(the bit on top of TB), plus possibly even a
heat shield depending on which Dak model.
Heat shield I think is necc. otherwise the filter
sits above the headers where it's sucking in
real hot air if stationary. Also, the positioning of
the Airaid slightly interferes with the cruise
control cable which is obviously not good... On
the upside, the Airaid does look quite nice with
its polished steel curved tube.

It's amazing how a thread can start out with a guy asking about parts for his 4.7, than all of a sudden all these guys with 5.9's chime in on what worked best for thier trucks. The two engines are totally different beasts and don't react the same. Also a lot of the parts made by the same company have completly different designs between the two engines. My roommate has a 4.7 4x4, and I have seen both the K&N(for 4.7) and the AirRaid(whihc my roommate has). They look pretty much the same, but the Airraid uses the stock airbox for mounting and alos seems to have a better design for getting the cold air in. Just my opinion, but I think in this case the AirRaid is a better design.

I bought the airaid kit for my 4.7 and to me it seemed like I paid alot for a filter, because it connects to the stock airhat. So I sent it back and made a home brew, till the K&N came out. When it did, I didn't like the design so I'll stick with my home brew for now.

Have you ever actually looked at the inside of your stock airhat?? It's prettymuch a straight through design. Just has some sound reducing design to it, but nothing to disrupt airflow. And you coudl have just made a L out of PVC to connect the AirRaid to the TB, and you woudl have had the K&N design. But the AIrRaid is still better because it connects to the stock airbox and doesn't have a bottom on it. The bottom is the airbox. So you can remove the rubber flap from beside the radiator, run a hose to the inlet on the airbox, and have some true outside air directly to the filter. The K&N can't even do that.

I just purchased a airaid intake system for my 98 chevy full size with a 5.7 how do you think it stacks up against K/N and Aem Brute force. Does you get a good sound. I have a flowmaster exhaust with a 40 series muffler i just had installed not to long ago. Can you tell a difference. Right now I have just The K/N filter with the top of the airbox off. And what do you'll think about the aluminum tube do you loose horsepower compared to when you have a plastic tube because it may get to hot. And I also have a cowl induction hood so I got air coming in from everywhere somebody let me know. I havn't installed the filter yet I just bought it today the K/N and Aem seemed to expensive and from what I read airaid is pretty well known.
