Just got a '00 QC 4x4 4.7. This truck is totally stock and I am new at this so be gentle! I'll be changing the tranny fluid/filter, plugs, oil, etc and probably adding a K&N filter. Not sure what else I should go with as better MPG is more important right now than extra HP or acceleration. Anyway, on to my main question...

THe guy I got it from had been getting the oil changed every 2500-3000 miles (good) with Penzoil (bad)..

Anyway, should I just switch to a better oil and continue with recommended changes or do an interim change to help clean the crud out from the Penzoil?? If so, what should I use to help clean it out?

I am leaning towards the Mobil-1 but would appreciate any commments on the Mobile Synblend, and Valvoline's synthetic and snyblend.

Thanks a million,
Brad

You can use any good synthetic. I have used Mobile-1 since 1988. I am currently switching over to Amsoil. I have never had any bad experinces with mobile-1 and neither have any of my clients. I am switching over to Amsoil for a few reason.1)msoil makes a better product then Mobile-1. 2) Amsoil is entirely American!!! 3) Amsoil has a lubricant for all of my needs. I own and service a mix of imports and AMerican made cars and trucks. I also have heavy equipment that I take care of. It is alot easier to keep one brand of product for all of them. I would not worry too much about the oil. If the oil was changed every 2500-3000 miles you should be fine. I would switch to Mobile-1 or Amsoil and run a good filter. I would recomend Baldwin Filters, Hasting's, Pureolator, and AC/Delco. If you are not doing extended drain and you do not own a diesel never pay more then $6.00 a filter. The best value for a filter is the baldwin B34(fits 4.7) $4.75 cents and it is every bit as good as filters costing $10.00. Changeing your trany fluid and diff fluids to synthetic will save you about 3% in gas. If you want to use products from all one company for your truck their are only two that offer products that cover ever application. Amsoil and Redline.
