Message: I have been reading all the posts regarding air intakes and I've noticed a few people are actually getting rid of their intake kits and changing to a K&N drop in filter. Can someone tell me why? I assume it is because of disappointing results with the air intakes. I need to know if I would be better off with a drop in filter or the complete intake. Please enlighten me.
Thanks Bill

Message: I just put a K&N Gen II induction kit on my 2000 4.7 5speed 4x4 and 3.92 axles. the dyno printout says 7hp but I really definatly feel the difference in the 3000-5000rpm range, I get .5mpg better, the induction sound is great and no driveability problems. this is my first upgrade and it set me back $300. Would I do it again? Yep

Message: The thing to watch for with the intakes on the 4.7 is heat under the hood. You should defidently pull the rubber flap on the passenger side of the radiator out, and I went a step further, and pulled the piece of foam out of the top end of the hood on the passenger side as well - this allows cool air to flow over the intake. As a side note, I have the K&N, and at first I was concerned about water in the intake - so one of the first things I did before warrenty ran out was drove it through a touchless car wash and left it running - if it had sucked up water and blown all to hell, I would have had it fixxed under warrenty by putting the factory intake back on.

Message: Would there be any benifit to putting a small length of flexible hose, about 4" in diameter, from the opening made when removing the flap on the passenger side of the radiator so that it blows colder utside air around the opening of the factory airbox, or even the filter or an aftermarket intake? I guess it couldn't hurt...right?

Message: The factory box is already pulling cold air, so running a hose wouldn't do much for you there. You could point that hose right at your aftermarket filter, but I would make sure it isn't blowing water at it too.

Message: The factory air box will pull cold air but the heater hoses under the TB just holds the heat there.Move the hoses,Get 12ft of 3/4 hose and two 90 deg elbows run it across the fire wall and get the heat away from the TB and you will pick-up HP!

Message: So did you run into any problems with water in your intake?
I was curious about this also, I installed an Airaid which I like because of the heat shield and the utlization of the lower portion of the stock intake box, but after removing the rubber flap on my radiator, I am worried (when off roading) of water/mud coming through the opening into the intake.
I'm sure a few drops wouldn't effect anything as the filter would catch it, but is this a concern?

Message: Cube - I haven't had any problems with water, even in the car wash when it blasts my grill - the other day it rained pretty hard here....ok it rained like a tall cow pissing on a flat rock. Even with all the standing water I didn't have a problem running about 30 mph - I couldn't see to go any faster than that.
