Message: I got my order form in, and im ready to do this this week sometime, but a few last minute questions. On the order form where you set the speed and rev limiters, what did you set yours at, and i dont see the waiver anywhere, do i have to write it out myself? Could anyone give their testimonial on its performance? Thanks Alot!

Message: I had my rev limiter set to 6000 rmp, it actualy pulls to about 6200 rpm. Tell mr. Cruz no speed limiter, although they will set it @ 135 mph, unless the speed limiter is set @ 98 already and then they will leave it.
Performance if yours runs like mine you will be glad ya did. I left a pair of 175'+ black marks by the flight line 5 min after I bolted mine back in, and another 10 footer hitting 3rd gear.

Message: Your welcome Mr. Mike,
If you did not get a release form from Mr. Cruz e-mail him back and let him know and he will fax you one. Make sure on the spec sheet that you put all the current mods. And I would put the ones I know i was going to for sure do soon.
Later have Fun,
Lynn

Message: Sorry D, but they WONT raise the limiter if its 98, I finally got ahold of them today after 1000 tries..They dont recommend raising it OR the Rev limiter, luckily they faxed me a waiver. I'm setting the rev at 7500 and the speed at 135(stock 115) I hope it delivers to my expectations..and from what everyone is saying, it should. Does anyone have before and after Dyno and/or track comparisons? I would REALLY appreciate any more feedback someone has to add.
Thanks

Message: So can anyone tell me if thier engine runs hotter after the upgrade? I've heard (I forget where) that there were cooling issues with most of the PCM upgrades. Cooling is a big deal since I tow frequently.

Message: Cotharyus,
I didn't get any extra heat at all, it still ran about the same. About 3 weeks after I put it in I put in the RobertShaw 180 t-stat and it dropped down some more. My truck is new, but for heat I don't think it makes any difference.
D,
I'm to understand on the ones that are set at 98 they will not raise has something to do with a vibration in the drive lines. I wouldn't quote me on that, but thats what I heard. The ones set at 98 have a little different drive line and set up a terrible vibration over 100 mph.
KB should be able to tell you more.
Later,
that was ok huh knobbyman.

Message: I saw a post somewhere that the limited speed has something to do with driveshaft durability at high speeds. Somebody was saying that there was a problem with them coming apart and instead of correcting the problem DCX decided to limit the speed. Anybody know anything 'bou this?? I've got the same mod on my list but I don't want anything to do with aluminum shrapnel or pole vaulting at 120 MPH!!

Message: If you have a 5 speed there is no difference in rpms if your goin 130mph at 3000rpms than if your going 80mph in 4th gear at 3000rpms...so it shouldn't have anything to do w/ the driveshaft.
I can undestand a speed limiter on a 4 banger or 6 cylinder but for a V8 don't see any reason not to go at least 135 safely w/o breaking the driveshaft.

Message: Hey wally, wanna re-think that? :) The differences in speed are made at the transmission, the driveshaft speed increases constantly as speed increases. What I don't understand is how cars of the past, using yesteryear technology, were durable enough to withstand these high speeds, but in 2002, engineering advances cant achieve a driveshaft with a neutral enough balance to do so..what gives? I WANT SPEED! LOL

Message: Mike,
That's engine RPM, not driveshaft RPM. Driveshft RPM is directly proportional to vehicle speed, not necessarily engine speed because of different ratios in the tranny, std or automatic. You can turn 6000 engine RPM in first gear but still turn the shaft relatively slow because you're only going (for example) 35 MPH. At 70 MPH, the driveshaft RPM will double, 105 MPH it will be three times but the engine RPM drops every time you upshift. The only time they are equal is in OD, or where the trans ratio is 1:1. At anything less (higher numerically) the engine is turning faster. Am I making any sense?

Message: Jared,
My original post is referring to driveshaft RPM-we're kinda saying the same thing. See my response to Mike. I think the difference is in the material. Aluminun doesn't have the strength of steel. Solution?? Get a custom carbon fiber shaft-wouldn't that be trick!!

Message: Sorry Mike, they're right.
If you're going 90mph in fifth gear or 90mph in second gear, the drive shaft will going the same RPM in both cases (though I wouldn't recommend trying to hit 90 in second gear)

Message: Mike,
Exactly!! Remember, the driveshaft is directly coupled to the axles via the ring and pinion. There is no way for them to spin at a variable rate. Look at diff ratio, we'll use 3.92 for example. For every 3.92 rotations of the driveshaft, the ring gear and hence the axles, rotate once . Therefore, if the wheels are spinning at 100 RPM, the driveshaft is at 392 RPM. If you increase speed until the wheels are spinning 1000 RPM, the shaft is at 3920. This speed relationship holds forever true unless you change the ratio of the gears. I hope you understand my example...
