Message: We need a better technical description of the "metal casing box thingy" under your truck. Tell us whats leaking and we'll probably be able to help. In the meantime check to make sure the radiator cap is back on securely.

Message: Water pump weep hole?
Is it on the water pump (front of the engine, smooth pulley)?

Message: Maybe the leak was there before you added water, and that is why you had to add water. In any case, you should not be "squirting" water from anywhere on your engine. Get it checked soon before you overheat and damage the motor.

Message: All, I think I have the same problem as Mandy.
I own a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab - 4.7L engine.
I have a coolant leak coming from a pinhole in the aluminum casing about two inches aft of the lower radiator hose.
It is not a weep hole.
It started out very small - at first I could only smell the coolant.
Then, it got bigger - I could see a mist.
Now I can see a streaming spray of coolant.
I tried adding Stop Leak (aluminum shavings)to the coolant. That worked for a day. Now it is pissing out again.
I see no visible damage to the exterior of the casing, so I assume that there is a casting defect which caused an exceptionally thin wall in this spot of the casing.
My question for the board is...
Will patching the exterior of the casing with an epoxy like JB Weld help my situation?
I understand that replacing the housing may be the best fix, but I want to do something right away.
Many thanks.
Chris

Message: Thanks for the response, Chief.
I drained the coolant from the block and picked away at the edges of the pinhole with a scribe. I opened up a hole about 1/4 inch in diameter. I think the only thing holding that section of the case together was the paint. As a temp fix, I patched the hole with JB Weld. It is holding strong under pressure.
Nice to know that there is a TSB out there, but that doesnt mean the repair will be compliments of DC. I'll keep an eye (and nose) on the area for coolant.

Message: Is that leak on the engine that was mentioned where the actual hose from the rad fits onto the spout on the top of the block? If so, it's in certain '95 5.2L engines as well. It's a super-duper slow leak, and you cannot even smell the stuff, but after driving for extended periods (say, 1hr or more) I can stop and look behind the alternator at the spout-base where it bolts on and there is a minor amount of orange coolant there. I mean I haven't had to add any coolant in three months, but there is an extremely slow leak there.
