Yes, the t-stat housing is on the bottom hose where it bolts to the engine block. You will have to pull the plastic plate that goes from the radiator to the cross-member, and it helps to put the front tires up on ramps. Also, notice when you remove the old stat, that the gasket is re-useable and has a bump in it where the thermostats flange has a groove in it to fit into. also, the gasket only goes into the housing one way, also with a bump and groove. You will have to put a similar groove into your new stat like the stock stat has, otherwise things will not fit right and you will get leaks.

Message: I got my Robert Shaw 180 thermostat today and decided to install it. I have done thermostats on several vehicles and decided I would do this on on my 4.7L. I got the two bolts out ok and pulled the old thermostat out. I put the rubber gasket on the new one. I pulled the whole hose out so that I could make sure I got the notch lined up correctly and everything. Once I put it back in, and got the hpse all hooked back up, I dumped in my DEI radiator relief. I took the truck for a drive to get it warm and make sure everything worked. Well, 180 came and went, I shut her off at 220. I coasted back to the house and once again pulled the hose off and put the original thermostat back in. Again, I took it for a drive, and yet again, up to 220. There is no heat coming out when I turn the heater on. I double checked and I have it installed exactly as it says on the packaging. The cone end is facing the front of the truck. Any ideas? I need help on this one. I was going to try installing it the other way, but I ran out of time tonight.

Message: In the past I heard of one other person having this trouble and this was his problem....
He put the coolant back into the coolant reservoir instead of into the upper hose where the radiator cap is. Fill the upper hose where the radiator cap is and you should work just fine. With no fluid in the radiator or block, it will not siphon the fluid out of the overfill jug. It also will not go from the jug to the system just by filling it. If you did not take the radiator cap off the hose and instead just popped the yellow cap off the overflow, then that is where your problem is. It has happened before. If you are still having trouble, E-mail me at golfinglenn@attbi.com with your phone # and a good time to call tomorrow and I will try to help you troubleshoot.
