Message: Ok, would a 2002 4.7 dak club cab beat a 2002 chevy silverado regular cab 4.8 off the line? I know these truck are in diferent classes but I'm just curious. Has anyone done this race? In honest opinion, which engine is better? Would a 4.7 keep up with a silverado or better yet blow it away considering the class differences.

Message: Z-71 is a 4x4, so you've definitely got the power to weight ratio on him. A halfway decent way to estimate your chances is to take the truck weight and divide it by the torque your motor puts out (just use crank HP/TQ). Whoever has the lower number usually ends up ahead off the line.

headers exhaust, and cams I believe. It was

Message: Iv never really seen any Chevy/GMC Full size pickups perform up to par with Ford and Dodge as far as muscle in a truck goes. Hell there was one guy with a blown 350 in a 00 Sierra CC he only ran 16 something in the quarter... this was in HotRod awhile back.
If you can show me one of those trucks that can pull in a 15 or better yet a 14 second time I'd be very impressed.
Although now that I think of it... the 454SS'es arent too bad, but its a rarity to ever encounter one out on the streets.
P.S. Im talking full size pickups not the syclones.

Message: RT MAN 70,
If that was one of the new Lightnin's with the super charger I bet the driver and his bud had a blast toying with you till you hit your speed limiter and I bet they where so disapointed it couldn't last longer.
No, R/T's are in no way intimidating at all. Prior to coming to Germany I was out with a Bud in his Dakota 4.7 riding around San Antonio, TX. He had just purchased it and had ordered it custom. He is a no frills REDNECK, and had ordered the truck R/C no extras manual every thing except A/C. 5 Speed, 4.7L, w/3.92's for the exclusive reason to pull his 22' boat. He put Dual exaust, and some 16" 60 series tires like all the other Rednecks in Texas, but other than that stock. It was loud because for the redneck straight 12" glass packs are good enough.
I hope the driver/owner of this R/T comes to this forum, but one lined up at a light on Military Blvd and reved up. My friend said "he's going to blow us away with his 5.9, but.... what the hell."
Well at the next light when the R/t finally got there and stopped, me and my friend adrinaline pumped, Reved at him. Light turned green again and we toasted his A$$ again. At the next light the R/T driver is looking a bit like a rabid dog and has loaded up his drive train to just before turning the tires loose intent to prove something. Light turned green again and a heart rush later we beat him to the next light and he was so mad he ran the light and turned left.(I don't think he could look us in the eye) Thats when I decided Dakota Sport+ 4.7L 5 Speed w/3.92's. So Dec 14th I went to the local Sales and walked in and told the salesman this is what I want and handed him the Spec sheet I had created in Excel. Feb 28 it arrived and I've changed some things and run the dog Sheet out of it. No, the R/T is not intimidating, just hyped.
To others sorry about this long post, Later,
My VW Killer Lynn

Message: yates,
I couldn't agree more. The R/T 5.9 is a great truck in it's own rights, but it is absolutely not in the same league as the newer S/C Lightnings. The R/T was a great performance truck when it was introduced, and it will perform on par with those trucks from the same era. It will not even come close to a 98 or newer Lightning in stock trim (drivers being equal). It doesn't have the same torque curve, doesn't have the RPM capabilities, and certainly doesn't have the HP (again, this is stock trim models). You guys can bullsh!t all you want here on this board, but when it comes down to it on the street/strip, I'll hand you your ass with my S/C Lightning any day of the week. Sorry to rant, but I just can't stand bullsh!tters...

Message: Why does the R/T come with those dog ugly mickey mouse side mirrors and my little SLT comes with some small sporty-ish ones? I would think the people with the SLT would want the larger mirrors for towing and easier use, and the R/Ts have the smaller more sleek ones. The R/T needs to be a manual 5.7!

You guys are right on...there is NO WAY any Dakota, much less a QC is going to keep up with a S/C Lighting, unless it has a bunch of mods.
Don`t get me wrong here, I love my QC , but I know better than to think I could beat one of those things.
Only if they let me.
BTW , wasn`t this suppose to be about Daks. and Spillverados?

Message: hey guys
I had a 1989 GMC sierra and a 1991 454Ss pick up truck. I can tell you that the 350 89 GMC can and often did smoke the 454ss. I was shocked the first tiem . My buddy who has a couple of race cars went with me cause I wanted to se whatt he trucks would do against each other. the trucks both had the same equipment and body styles. the GMC had the chrome package and the 454 had the balcked out treatment. they were both running 275 60 15 tires. the GMC had a 3.08 gear ration and I think the 454 had 4.10 but I forgot. the GMC stock ran a 15.7 at 90 and the 454 ran 16.2 at 88. the stock 454ss was a slug. not to say they couldnt be made fast. by the time I got mine done it was in the mid 13s low 14( depending on weather and things like that. I ended up selling it to a japanese guy who supposedly took it to japan. I can tell you that the GMC to this day with 280 000 miles on the original motor can absolutely light up the rear 35 inch tires with no problem. it had 4.10 gears and a Auburn posi. My bro in law has it now and the last time i drove it it still felt like it had more low end torque than the dakota did. we havent raced yet and Im assuming well be fairly even mabey Ill be slightly ahead cause the stock TBI unit sucks at higher RPM on the GMC. I can definately pull him from 55 rolling on freeway. the older 350 can be made to go pretty fast as soon as you get rid of the cheezy TBI or at least have it reworked.
I also had a syclone abd while it was a fun truck it got stolen. later I found out that those things were a maintenance nightmare.
anyway some info for you guys in case youre running a stock 454 or 350 chevy.

My Dakota is a 2002 4.7L CC 4x4 auto loaded... My father's Silverado is a 2001 5.3L CC 4x4 auto loaded and although his is a fast truck, when we line up together, the Dakota is in fact a hell of a lot faster... Off the start and from a 60km rolling start... His is worth $12,000 more though... and the CC doors open up and stuff... go figure... I have not raced his other truck though... It's a 3/4 ton with the Duramax Diesel and Allison tranny... I can tell you from driving it that it drives like a sports car... A real big, owning the road type of sports car...
