Your 4.7's arent hemi's It doesnt matter how simalar they are... The 5.7 wouldnt be getting all the hype about being a hemi if it was truely released back in 98. So please cease and desist if you will.
The same guys who didnt cut the 5.0 slack for actually being a 4.9 are wanting the slack to be concidered hemi's... How interesting.
P.S. the 5.9 is actually a 5.8 if you want to go on about how true all companies engines actually are.
(Yes I do own an R/T)

When and where did anyone say that the 4.7 was a hemi? just because it is built better than the 5.9, i dont remember anyone saying it was a hemi.
yeah i said 5.9 because 5,889 cc's is a hell of a lot closer to 5.9 then 5.8. if it was 5,801 then it would be a 5.8.

Well if you must know the 4.7 is a hell of a lot closer to being a hemi than thet 5.9L your lugging around. The chamber has a hemispherical "section" then squares off. It is not and I repeat it is not a HEMI. It takes some of the advantages of a hemispherical chamber, but is not a true hemi motor. So I suggest moving on to a site where people don't what they have, and post (whin) there.

You know what, i am tired about all these 5.9 whineys trying to find anything and everything wrong with a 4.7, maybe its a big case of engine envy, i mean come on,the 5.9 has 1.2 liters on the 4.7 but only makes 15 more horsepower?
accept the fact that the 4.7 is better and quit whining.

I really don't think that all 5.9 owners dislike the 4.7. They may not except it because it is so different and is a big leap from the 5.9 technology. Pushrod engines are becoming a thing of the past. Torque can be made effecintly without them. I ordered my truck late 1999. It was the first 4.7 Dakota delivered to this specific dealer. The techs were bad mouthing it as I was picking it up...WTF. I have faith that Dodge would not put out an engine they didn't know would produce. Believe me it produces.

i got the same thing when i went to the dealership,alot of crap, i guess eventually people will realize that the 4.7 is just as good as the "old school" engines and can only get better seeing how it is only 4 years old?

Um , guys? Do you see something funny here? , I would rather drive a 2.5 than the biggest Ford ever made. So (even though this was not about 4.7 vs 5.9) Lets forget about it and just enjoy our trucks. Lowered , raised , stock or modded , its still the best damn truck out there!!!

Just remember the old saying--- you read about Horse Power and "FEEL" Torque. I'd take the 5.9 over the 4.7 anyday of the week. Nice to cruse up hills at around 2300 RPM and not even drop out of overdrive!

I live in Houston....What is a hill? The closest thing we have to a hill is a overpass. As long as there is a gas station at the bottom of that hill you should be fine in your 5.9.:)

I own a 4.7 and my only question is why do you other 4.7 guys make so much of a big deal about gas mileage?! Ours is NO better!

I've wondered that myself QUADMAN, I'm happy because I can go farther than my friend's 95 Accord due to just me having a bigger gas tank! Yey! Either way, it's really that much better. If you bought a V8, fuel economy was the LAST thing on your mind.

I get 22 mpg on average, and if I take it easy I can get as much as 23 mpg. I say that is not bad for a V8. I did consider mpg when I bought this truck. Looking back I got V8 power with better gas millage than most V6's, and a truck that I can actually pull something with instead of just hauling ass....which BTW it does very well.

The way I drive I never make 20mpg with mine that is US galons. Havent tested it latly though.

Hey CW,
I noticed you have the gear ratio I am thinking about going to. What rpm's are you turning in top gear at say 70 mph. I got the Chrysler 9.25 rear end....open case:(. I already have the LSD unit in transit, and I am about ready to purchase the ring & pinion set. I would be courious to how much difference is in the rpm's without having to do all the math.

I have the 4.7 5 speed w/3.92's and figure 3X rpms for speed to tach i.e.
60 mph = 2000 rpm
75 mph = 2500 rpm
120 mph = 4000 rpm
135 mph = 4500 rpm
Thats with the stock size 265/65-16's.

There's almost exactly a 10% increase in RPMs when going from 3.55 to 3.92. Just take your current RPM in a given gear at a given speed, drop the right digit, then add that back into the original number. ie: 2000->2200, 2500->2750.

Well I ordered this truck for my wife to drive ;) I can't imagine how many clutches I would have replaced by now so I got the Auto:(. I think it is still fun to drive. All I have done is knocked off the muffler and dumped it just past the cab...RC BTW. Yes it is loud, but I kind of like it in a Redneck sort of way. Many mods to come, but I thought it would be better to get the basic platform ready with beefy gears to start. I ordered it with 3.55's, and I screwed up and literally forgot about LSD. So I have purchased a LSD unit and the Ring & pinion set will come soon. I can't wait to feel the extra pull at the line!:)
