Message: I have had mine installed now for about two weeks. It sounds great and seem sto work good. My fuel mileage increased roughly 1 mile per gallon. Not a great gain, but at least it is something. The sound the engine makes with this intake is just great. Is it worth the money. I think it is, but others will say no. It gains you roughly 7-8 hp.

Message: Greg and Mark
Thanks for the information - it would be an easier decision to spend the money if it were more horses and about 2 mpg. I hope to get more replies as others install the FIPK

Message: Just got my FIPK installed earlier today-took about an hour to do it after I scrounged up the tools. Went and drove around to test it and when you step on it, it GROWLS! A very nice sound to it. Didn't dyno my truck before so I have no idea on power/torque gains, but once I add exhaust in a week or so should open it up nicely.

Message: apparently the fipk for the 4.7 is only carb certified for 2000-01 and not for the 2002. I have a 2002 and would like to get the fipk, is there any reason it won't eventually be carb certified? Is it just a matter of time, or is there something different about 2002's? It will fit the same right?

Message: Does anyone know what that rubber flap next to the radiator does? I would think that by removing it, the engine could get more air and improve the performance a little. Is it their so rocks don't hit the radiator lines? Thanks. Oh, I can also post a pic of the FIPK if anyone is interested.

Message: Tad, get lost with your overpriced, homemade PVC piece of crap intake that anybody could build for $40 with parts from Home Depot and some noname filter.
What the hell is a throttle body "hat" on a 4.7?? The tube goes straight into the TB. More proof you're full of it and everybody knows your crap melts with high underhood temps in the summer. Get lost, a-hole!!

Message: WallyR,
Sorry to upset you WallyR.
Many people on this website refer to the stock "fixture" that connects to the throttle body of the 4.7L as the "throttle body hat." It actually is a primary noise dampening chamber. In the year and a half we have been selling these intakes, we have had nobody reporting a problem with melting including intakes shipped to Phoenix, AZ, Las Vegas, NV, and many to Texas.
"No name filter" you say WallyR??? We decided not to use NAPA or PepBoys paper filters. : )
Sorry to confuse you WallyR. We use new K&N cone filters Re-0870. Yes, ABS tubing parts are about $40 and the filter is about $40. Our beginning bid price is $94.80.
If you want to make your own intake, that's ok. If you want to buy a K&N FIPK or other name brand intake, that is ok. Our intakes are for people on a budget who want an intake that works without the high price of a name brand intake.
for those of you who know how EBay works, when you get to our auctions, click on the number next to our name (rezreal) and you will see that we have several pages of comments from satisfied customers. If you still are irritated by our auctions, sorry. I get irritated when people forget we are in a free enterprise society and that small entrepreneurs have a right to compete with large name brand companies. I apologize to all of you that we offend.

Message: I installed my FIPK on my '01 4.7 yesterday. It certainly didn't hurt my low end torque, and I think I can honestly say the butt-dyno says the top end is a little snappier. I must say however, that even added to a bone stock engine, the FIPK has made that truck huge loud when you get into it. It has a growl that has nearly scared several vehicles off the road as I passed them in 3rd gear.

Message: I ran the Volant cool air system with the rubber flap removed for about 4,000 miles, it is similar to k&n’s truck ran great a little loud but it ran great.
I bought a K&N drop in filter and put the stock air system and rubber flap back on, and the truck runs great a lot quieter but it runs great. Hmmm I wonder if the three hundred $ was worth it.

Message: In my neighboorhood, there is this man down the street from me, who runs in front of me and flips me off and yells whenever I go by; he does this wheather I go 15 or 30, so it's not speed. A week ago he was out front and saw me coming from down the street, he then raced to jump in front of me on a bicycle and then processed to chase me on the bike, very interesting he is. I wondered if maybe it was my very mellow exhaust, so I revved at him as I went by slowly and he freaked out even more than usual.
Be thankful you do not have mentally ill people chasing you as you go by.
Oh yeah, do intakes actually have an effect on the sound of the exhaust?

Message: xplikt - I would have to say that intakes can affect the sound of the exhaust. This is based strickly on the fact that I can actually hear my exhaust (not the engine, but my exhaust) when the engine lugs back a little in 5th going up a hill and I get into it just enough to hold my speed. Nothing scientific, just real life results. BTW, about that neighbor - next time he runs out in front of you, stop, let him stand in the middle of the road, then charge him - make sure you lay down at least 30 feet of rubber. If he does it again, put on some latex gloves or something, cut off all your hair, steal a car, and run him over, then ditch the car. (oh wait, I've thought that out, and it would be premeditated - maybe you better not)

Message: I gotta vent on this one...
I bought my truck in the first week of May this year. In the third week of May, after searching websites for countless hours, I called K&N to inquire about the FIPK for an 02 w/4.7. I asked again and again if and when they planned to release a product for this truck. The answer was no, no plans, don't know anything about it. Less than two months later and WA-LA, it magically appears. Doing business that way is not how you build a faithful customer base. I'm glad I bought another brand. I'll bet the K&N is made out of the same cheap plastic they're known for-I'm enjoying popping the hood and hearing "wow" over the shiny, polished stainless sewer-pipe-sized intake strapped on top of my 4-7. Screw K&N.
OK, I'll get off my soapbox now...

Message: Ken,
I went with the AirForce One kit. The element isn't surrounded by a box, but it is a straight 3" tube with one 90 degree bend. I think it has less pressure drop than some of the others, like the z-tube.
