Subject: California Emissions IP: Logged
Message: Well, the truck is only a year away from its first emissions testing and im wondering where do i go from here. It is a 99 r/t with vortech and magnaflow, since i dont think it will even pass now, i dont know if I should go any farther with it. I want to put a cam and roller rockers in it, but what happens when emmissions comes around? Anyone else from California that has a moded r/t that has gone through emissions?
Thanks for the reply and any suggestions?

Message: Splinter,
Do what i did in Texas,(you've got a year)go by some emmissions testing stations and find one of the techs that will run the test on the side for $20 or $30(or a case of his favorite beverage). You can get a baseline on your truck and know what you have to do prior to going for the real inspection. In college will called these pre-exam quizes. If it is OK at this point then keep adding mods till it doesn't.LMBO!
Good Luck,

Message: Word of caution--- Even if it 'passes' the sniffer, they can and will fail you on items that do not have EO #s (CARB #s). Best thing to do-- keep all your original stuff-- once you get your notice for renewal-- start putting the stock stuff back on... Get smogged, then go back to what you had for another 2 years.
The roller rockers I sell (Crower) have an EO # and are CARB legal (plus they'd never know you had them anyway... On your cam, if you don't go too radical, you should be okay-- a pretest as yates-in-de mentioned would be a good to do after that. Your Vortech MIGHT have an EO# for it... Anything done after the CAT is smog legal as long as there's a muffler back there.
I've got heads, cam, M1, etc... so I have more to deal with in 2005!

Message: good luck paying off one of the techs! the fine is like 30k with jail time. i dont know anyone dumbenough to risk that for a case of pepsi...lol
i passed the sniffer with all of the mods in my sig, with the exception of the M-1. i only passed by one point, but acording the the dodge tech (i took it to the dealer about a month later for a diagnostic from my friend)i was running rich. if i would have swiched back to the 195 T-stat i might have helped.
the guy who did my smog has a 2000 suburban with a whipple charger on it, and he said the blowers help pass smog because the test is done before the aux. injectors kick in and it leans it out a little.
check with vortech to see if it has a carb #
