Seth, I've got a 2001 QC 4.7 w/ the nv3500hd. I have installed the Hurst short throw shifter, got it from Summit Racing. It only takes a couple of mods to adapt the "up to 2000 only" to fit on 2001s+. The Hurst shifter tower has adjustable throw-limit bolts, so no slop. I don't have any pictures yet, but if there is more interest, I'll get some in the works. Let me know.

Hey deffinately man! This is what I have been looking for! If you dont mind can you describe to me what needs to be done to make it fit? I mean I really dont wanna hack up the floor console to bad! Does it look factory? Any part numbers for it? Any help will be appreciated! Also pictures if you can! See we may not have the same floor console! Is yours with the integral arm-rest or does your middle seat fold down to make an arm-rest cause the floor consoles are different on each!
Thank You!
Seth

I added the white knob as well. LOVE IT!!! It is noisier than stock, but well worth it.

Seth, I'll email you tonight with instructions. Mods were not hard at all. No mods to the integral consol/armrest, only to the shifter boot plate. No biggie, really easy, and looks factory, only better!

If anyone else wants instructions, post your email, and I'll send them your way.

If yah can shoot me some pics I would be gratefull. I bought that shifter last year when it first came out. I found that the plate was dif and did not work on 2001+ so I returned it. I was not in the mood to try to jimmy it. If its not hard I would consider getting it again.

Thanks

So was it real easy to install or what cudashoe? I have a 2000 5spd. I'd get it just because I've always wanted to own a vehicle with a hurst shifter.

I really really want one bad, but I got a 2001 4.7 4x4 and am afraid to do anything too serious to make it fit. I'm not too mechanically experienced either. How long did it take you? My e-mail is fot80@hotmail.com

CThomp- It is VERY easy. Also if you do it, plan on changing your fluid too because with the shifter out, you can pour the fluid right in.

Everybody, the hurst shifter we are discussing was made to fit gen 3's up to 2000. Anyone with a 2001+ 4.7 with the NV3500HD will have to make some mods. I am also looking into adapting this shifter to work on body-lifted daks with no consol mods. I will have pics and instructions by this weekend for everyone interested. Just post your email. Thanks!

Cuda, I don't know about the earlier NV3500s but when I went to install the shifter on my NV3500HD, the ball and socket jammed together so much that I couldn't shift into 3rd or 4th. I had to modify to allow for proper shifting. Did you run into the same issue? Perhaps the sockets are positioned differently in our trannies? Thanks.

Hey CudaShoe, what gear is the stick in, in that pic? I hope its in 4th, pretty far back. Does it interfere with anything in its normal travel? I like how my stock piece sits about an inch off the center console. Does the hurst fit similarly??
Thanks

Grrr, reading all of this makes me wish i had a 5-spd. :( Ah well, i wonder if it would be very hard to put a 5-spd in... i mean i know it'd be alot of work, but i bet it would be worth it. I bet im gonna blow my auto out of the water soon, so i'll just wait till then. :)

the NV3500HD was introduced with the 4.7L engine since it makes more torque than the 5.2 it replaced, and theus they use a tranny with more power-handling capability behind it (a bit overkill in this case, but still good for those who modify their engine)

the only thing that was changed from 2000 to the newer trucks is the floor piece where the shifter boot attaches, and the dash position in relation to the tranny itself
