Message: AHH!! Can't re-ad, all.. caps! Eyes...burn-ing.
There are not any aftermarket intake manifolds for the 4.7L, yet anyways. If you are running under 8 lbs. of boost I wouldn't worry about destorying them anyhow. Those pistons should work pretty good for now, but there are not any aftermarket pistons available either. I guess you can always have them custom machined out! That's a hole in the pocket!

Message: My stock plastic intake manifold has held up to a couple of passes at 14 lbs of boost. It has been pressurized to 10 lbs or more hundreds of times and I drive it at 7 lbs every day. Absolutely no problems with it at all.
I got a quote from JE pistons because I worried about the pistons as well. They said they'd need $1,100 for a set of forged pistons with rings.

Message: Thanks for the input guys. Any rumors as to when more performance parts might come out. I dont want to build an HO version of my motor I want some good parts. Right now I have JBA SS headers with true duel exhaust. I am running 14.8 @ the track.

Message: TRW makes pistons for the 4.7. Last I heard they had a listing for 4.7 pistons for the Grand Cherokee. I do not know if they are fordged or not. They did destoke them so to move the rest pins down and they moved the rings down as well and used high tension rings. So they should hold up better then factory pistons.

Message: So do these TRW pistons come with new rods also? They would either need to have a shorter rod or change the crank to accomplish that. Where can I read about these?

Message: The article apeared in a Mopar magizine. The article was about the 4.7 and it hielighted all of the piston problems as well as all of the technological inovation that dodge packed in to this new engine. It appeared on this sight more then once.It has also been on other sights as well. I suggest you call TRW and ask about their pistons for the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 for 1999 I think it was. The sign off engineer for TRW pistons refused to make a copy of the OEM piston. He all but said that they were stupid to design a piston like tha. He said seggested that dodge was inviteing piston and ring breakage. You could also try searching this site for the link. I am sure someone here has the link to that page!!!!

Message: Can you have the stock pistons shot-peend using beads of glass blasting?
My high school automotive teacher used to work at Corvette Corner where Chevy would take new cars and "factory" soup them up (Hearst Olds, etc., i.e.) and he said you could "stress-relieve" aluminum cast pistons by shot-peening trhe underside with a beads-of-glass blaster.
Just an idea form the '70's...
