The toy 4.7 doesn't even have them, and puts out LESS HP/tq, than the 4.7HO, with only sohc, and 2 valves /cylinder

A 4.8 single cab Chevy will smoke a stock 4.7 Dak in standard and automatic! And the Chevy is heavier than the little Dak, god forbid if the chevy mods because then it is a big time a$$ whipping of the little Dak. We all know now because of this thread if the Dak mods it won't do sh!t, heck it might even slow it down!

Message: just got my new mopar magazine, they 1/4 mile race a 2001 4.7 vs a 2001 5.9RT, both reg cab, same options, both auto, just diff rear ends and gears. after 6 runs, the 4.7 beat the RT everytime. (this is bone stock) sure a RT flys with mods, but im just talking about stock. my 2 cents

Message: you now thats what i miss about this place the miss informed assjacks like 5.7inwaiting,in time the aftermarket will start to put out H.P. parts for the 4.7 . the demand is there,you don't think the 440 or 340 started out with what you can get today ,,hell it took 18 years for the zeedker alum heads to come out, and then it took indy another 4 to release thier head for the rb block(413-440)

Message: well sounds to me like this arguement is getting pretty ugly in one hell of a big hurry, but hey everyone is allowed their 2 cents worth right so guess what here it is,
If anyone here has done any research into these engines that are all in question 4.7, 4.8 & 5.9 well they might just discover a few interesting things here so for those of you who dont know here it is, lets start with some basic numbers here ok does anyone recognize the numbers 277, 283, and 360 oh wait I do they are the C.I.D #'s for each engine now if we take a journey back in the day to when some of the people here were just kids, or not even thought of you would remember all the racing back at that particular time and how well each of these engines did.
the 277 I dont remember hearing much about other than it was decent The 283 well that was an engine to be proud to own , anyone who owned one knows what that baby could do and its spin offs ie the 302 from gm (not ford, GM thats General Motors)
And well the beloved 360, all I can say is WOW, that baby when done up right knew how to move, I mean hell even today the damn 360/5.9L sucks coming from the factory, but if you went and threw 340 heads on it and a few other basics those boys with their 283 chevs and 277 mopars were scared sh*tless.
Sorry for the losg post but I hate people who act like a$$es.
Now back to the modern day where the big 3 are reviving their old engines renamed by modern terms as the 4.7, 4.8 and 5.9. Anyone who knows jacksh*t about engines knows that the 4.7 and 4.8 are real quick revving engines and can get up into hign rpm in a huge hurry at the expense of torque thow, where the 5.9 is bad a$$ with huge numbers and cant keep the damn tires in contact with the pavment even at 70 miles an hour with the right mods at the cost of revving.
So back to the whole damn debate here the 4.7 is a decent engine, the 4.8 will kick the sh*t out of the 4.7 stock, people street race for a reason, and the 5.9 is stangled coming from dodge even after 20 years but will have the 4.7 and the 4.8 for lunch if it ever does make contact with the pavement

Message: ok i had a 2001 dak QC 4x4, auto, 3.55's with the 4.7, had a drop in k&n, removed the plastic shroud and a jet stage one chip... all wich made a very little difference, that truck wasnt a punk at all, it ran great, i really liked that truck, but now i got an incredible trade in on a 2002 RC dak R/T that was slightly modified (trade in + ttl) i got the truck for about 100 bucks. i love my R/T even more than my other and has a ton more balls then the other truck could ever dream of. i do realise that there is a huge weight difference between the two and some more things beond that. but "the 4.7 sucks" thats not true at all, i put it threw hell on and offroad and it always came back for more and it always got me back home without problems.

Message: I use to have an 87 chevy silverado. 350 built up....the whole kaboodle.I sold it because it cost me $300 a month for gas. I bought a 2000 4.7 dak little dodgy as I call it. I love it !!!! The 4.7 is smooth gets me decent gas mileage for a V8 and sounds great with my blowmaster exhaust(flowmaster 40 series).don't give a you know what who or what can blow my doors off. Its a good solid truck..Enuff said....

If someone else here could correct me if I'm wrong, but the 4.7 (what is in my truck), is 287ci's. Maybe someone could post a site for you to research to verify this. I don't know who says the 283ci is a 4.8L?
I thought the 5.0 was a 305ci?
As for the bigger, the more gas it takes?
Then why does the 4.7L, actually get better MPG than the 3.9L? Don't believe me, do a search.
And, I really like my slightly modded 4.7L 5spd manual Dak! Based on others dyno runs with the same mods, I'm making about 265HP at the crank right now, and it will go up with the HO intake, which will go well with my HO cams already in place.
For me, this slightly modded engine is the bomb. My Quad is my family vehicle also, and pulls my sailboat to the regattas, etc.
Someone help me and bakindak here, is the 4.7L = 287ci? bakindak, you have a v6 don't you?

Message: AS for the comment about the 4.7 getting better mileage than the 3.9 well that is easy to explain, the damn dakota weighs a lot so the 6 needs to pull more fuel to keep moving. Couple friends of mine have exact same trucks one has a 5.7 in it and the other has a 4.3, and my friend with the 5.7 gets like an extra 1-2 mpg over guy with the 4.3

Bakindak - The 4.7 is in fact a 287. The 4.8 is a 293, not a 283. It's real simple to convert metric measurements to C.I. Just take the metric number and multiply by 61 = C.I. Ex. 5.9 X 61 = 359.90 = 360. So, a 454 is a 7.44 litre engine, not a 5 litre. I hope this helps.

Message: I have a 4.7 quad cab. I raced a single cab cheby v-8 he had headers, full exhaust, intake, manifold, and TB. I have exhaust, intake, TB and chip. He has more stock HP and mods and I am a LOT heavier, and I beat him by half a truck length.

Message: If possible, I would like to direct my question to those individuals who use this site for it's intended purpose. Owners of Dodge Dakotas. Not so intended for those who use this as a forum to rant and rave like children with horrid language, (and spelling skills), to argue over whose Tinkertoy house is strongest.
That being said... I have a 2001 4.7 SLT. I am looking for a reasonably priced exhaust/muffler pkg to increase H.P & add some depth to it's sound. Flowmaster40 series seems to be a big pick, but would appreciate any opinion that does not include silly, stupid sarcasm.
