Subject: New Electric Fan Possibility... IP: Logged
Message: Found out the Mustang guys are installing the Lincoln Mark VIII fan in their cars. This puppy moves 4000 cfm! Houston Performance sells them for $99! Of course, you'd have to add a relay and temp switch, but it comes complete with a shroud that measures 22 x 19... should fit great. Check out this link:

Message: When I was looking for an electric fan I ran across the Mark VIII conversion. It is huge (18-19" I think). I'm not sure I believe the CFM rating though because I am yet to find a true published CFM for it. I've heard some say 5000+ CFM for that fan. It is a power hog, you have to have a HD relay to switch it.
I hope it works for you. Let us know how good it works.

Message: Here's a hint.....
The Cherokee 5.9 Limited's came with ONLY an electric fan. I bet it will bolt up to your 318 motor....... Somehow.

Message: Can't find any reference to the Cherokee Limited fans. OEMParts.com only lists clutch fans, so I have no way of knowing how much they cost. My main point here was cost-to-performance. If money was no object, I would probably just buy the Spal setup. But I'm looking at almost $300 once it's all said and done. If the Mark VIII fan will work for $50 to $100, woohoo. If not, I'll look at other things. The Viper fan sounds interesting, too. Don't know how many of those you'd find on E-bay, though.

Message: Beware that the Mark VIII fan may be to thick to put in between the radiator and engine... you may be able to trim about 1/2" off the shroud, but not much more... plus, the fan requires a good amount of power...
here are the dimensions of it:
22"W x 18.5"H x 6.25"D
The part # is: F8LH 8C607 AA
I'm looking into other fan possibilities as well...
Later!

Message: Another popular one is the Taurus 3.8 V6 2 speed fan. It's built like the Mark 8, but is a little smaller. Very efficient. Can be had routinely for around $50, and new motors are available in all parts houses.
I use a Flex A Lite soft start, variable speed controller on mine. Two years on a mildly modified 5.9 with absolutely no problems. Cools well even in over 100 degree weather in town and stoplights. On Summit Racing, you'd ned the bigger of the 2 the list to be sure to get enuf amp capacity. Just hook to the hi speed wire and ground. Easy wiring. Delays fan start a few seconds after you hit the starter to avoid double drain on the battery, and runs the fan a little after shutdown to avoid boilover on a hot motor. You can also wire manual constant on or constant off override switches.

Message: I use the Flex-A-Lite 27" Dual "13.5". Kit is really expensive, but comes with intelligent fan controller which only kicks in 60% or 100% when needed. I paid right around $400 for it. Made custom mounts. You could not overheat this engine with proper coolant level.

Message: Well it just so happens that I have a fan off of a Lincoln Mark VIII on my 93 Dakota. It is a two speed fan. I run the low side and it cools just fine. I got it out of a junkyard for 30 bucks.I bought a piece of sheet alum had a hole cut in it and had it bent to my specs. made up some mounting brackets wired in a relay and a temp switch to switch it on. It pulls so hard you can do the paper trick on the front of the RAD. and it holds it there no prob. It does pull alot of amps. so be aware of that. I am going to put a 120amp alt on it soon to solve this. If you got any questions about this. just ask,I will do my best to answer them. Goodluck

Message: Im running a Mark VIII electric Fan it works better then anything I have tried, but I had to trim like 1/2 inch from the plastic shroud and had to make some brackets to make it fit, you will never need another fan trust me :)

Message: ...and on my 2001, 4.7, manual tranny, with a 180 t -stat, I run only the stock electric fan.
Stock electronics, and the larger radiator with the factory towing pack.
NO BELT DRIVEN fan of clutch, just the pulley, like the newer dodges.
I live in S.E. TX, where it stays hot, and have NO problems. The gauge has never even made it to half way over.
