Subject: Will a 2000+ Electric Fan work a 97 5.2? IP: Logged
Message: I noticed that the factory 4.7 electric fan can be purchased on e-bay for $90 plus shipping. My question is: could this be installed on my 97 5.2? I checked and found the 97 4-cylinder Daks came with an electric fan, so I wonder if my 97 V-8 has the wiring harness and electronics to switch on an electric fan, too. Anybody know?

Message: That sounds like a good idea! Has anybody tried this?
Wiring it should not be a problem, but it may not push enough air? Depends on where you live?

Message: Nope and nope... Will it work? Sure it CAN work, but you've got a couple things against you. One, it's not big enough to work as your primary cooling fan. Two, if you were to mount it to your radiator, your clutch fan would hit it (so you'd have to remove the clutch fan. And three, there's no harness provision for a V8 prior to 2000.
You do better going with higher capaticity fan, and go that route.

Message: Only reason I ask is that it seems a lot of guys are running their 4.7's with just the electric fan... removing the clutch fan. I guess perhaps the 4.7 requires less cooling than the 5.2/5.9(?).

Message: The 4.7 has aluminum heads, a plastic intake manifold, and magnesium valve covers.....
It has all kinds of cooling capabilites over the cast iron LA motors.
Somehow the electric fan on the 4.7 with a 180 t-stat just "does the trick." All I can say is, cooooool.

Message: I used it on my 99, but I also added a thin fan between the rad and condensor (which came on for a/c also). There is no program in the PCM to control the fan so you have to use a switch.
Also it is not a bolt in the rad is different, but it will keep the engine from overheating if setup correctly. Used it for 2 yrs without the crank fan and never overheated (stock thermostat). Even towed skiis to FL. with it.
The whole setup is for sale now since I bought a 5.9 01 QC.

Message: What is the blade diameter of this fan? I was looking at the Black Magic and it is only 16-inch... seems pretty small compared to the clutch fan blade diameter of approximately 21-inches. How much do you want for your electric fan set-up? E-mail directly, if you want, to cwhitegr@theshop.net

Message: I've seen electric fan kits at www.jegs.com that include all the wiring and switches and everything for not much more than $90. I'd look at that. Or look at www.summitracing.com....

That link will work. I had it on my 1992 V-6...
