I have a 1999 Dakota Sport that had no driving issue's but one day driving to Springfield out of nowhere the transfer case blew the complete side out of it. I thought maybe it slipped into 4 high but according to the shift handle it was still in 2 high. I disconnected the front drive shaft and drove it like it was with no issues for another year until it started to make a bunch of noise because of the bearing failing. The transfer case that was originally in it was a 231 HD but the salvage yard didn't have any so I put in a 231 D transfer case. Since the 231D has a smaller diameter out put shaft hole I had to go back to the salvage yard and get the drive shaft that fit it. The problem was the driveshaft was bent because they pick up their vehicles with a fork lift. The truck drove smooth until about 55 then it would get a bad vibration. This went on for about a week or two until it finally cracked the transfer case and had severe vibration and transfer case chatter. The truck sat there broke for about 6 months until I went back to salvage yard and purchased the transfer case that originally came in the truck which was the 231 HD and put the original drive shaft back on with new j-joints. I took it for a test drive today and it has a severe vibration 30 MPH and above. I don't see how it could be the original drive shaft because my truck didn't have any vibration issues when I took that drive shaft down and replaced it with the 231 D transfer case and bent drive shaft. Does anyone have any ideal what would cause this?
