Subject: brake fluid flush IP: Logged
Message: All,
I have a 2001 5.9 190,000 and other than brake maintenance, ie. caliper changes etc , I have never done a fluid change and was curious if I should or not simply due to age and mileage i am a little skeptical.
Thoughts?

Message: I have a 2000 4.7 liter with 90K on it.
About every 3-4 years I buy a container of prestone synthetic brake fluid and use a turkey baster to suck out the old fluid, and pour in the new.
Takes about 5 minutes or so.
I do not think age is an issue or that it will cause you problems

Message: Sucking the fluid out up top, does not replace the fluid in the lines or at the calipers. New doesn't mix with old, because the fluid in the line stays put. You need to bleed the brakes too.
