Subject: 4.2002 durang7powertech Q's IP: Logged
Message: Hello all, first time in forums, I have a question and a small story looking for an opinion on.
ill start with the question When searching for a serpentine belt they give me 2 sizes 88 and 88 3/4
2002 Durango slt 4.7 4x4 powertech v8 (H.O. 4.7)
Which size do I need?
so on with the story, last july the head gasket went out on this truck it happened slowly and after throwing money into fan clutch new hoses ect my wife (main driver of this vehicle) noticed the tell tale billowing of the white smoke from Exhaust (dynomax catback)btw and the sweet smell of coolant/oil. I immediately gave the truck an oil change and it looked like coffe with creamer when it came out. I contacted a shop that I was referred to they quoted me around $2,300. They machined the heads pressure checked ect, Replaced the Cam gears guides Chains, essentially the whole upper half of the motor.
upon contacting them for a follow up they were getting very frustrated and this is after a few weeks mind you, they told me that they had basically got the wrong parts 3 diferent times and had to re-do the job 3 times because the parts were for the regular 4.7 and not the H.O. wich the shop didn't realize either.
I only figured it out by coming on this site and searching to figure out its the 4.7 H.O. version called the powertech.
Anyway here I am 5 months later or so and I have noticed admittedly from the time I got the truck back a slight decrease in performance I figured it was my imagination it still sounded the same,
I noticed they forgot to replace one of the map sensor bolts ive noticed a drop in oil pressure it used to stay at half way now it stays about a quarter way and moves up with increase in rpms.
upon startup it seems loud from the fan being loud to a sort of click I just figured it would sound quiet after all the new parts and money I spent. should I be worried that something got messed up when they had the wrong parts installed and were trying to run it with timing from the standard 4.7 before they knew it was the H.O.
or is timing close enough between the two that it isn't a big deal.
Thanks for listening.
