Message: Just bought my son a 94' Dakota with the 318 Mark III package. I have replaced battery and alterantor thinking it would fix the problem, and of course it did not. Please help
When you turn on headlights all the gauges in cluster peg out or drop, including tack, fuel, alt, oil, etc as well as the cluster lights go out and the dinger noise stays on, nothing else changes motor doesnt change either. Voltage is good.

Message: Sounds fun....you have a crazy short, but look at the common the switch for the lights. either your plug for the lights has melted(happened to me, some previous diy guy with bad wiring) but back to the switch.....it provides power to you dash to light your cluster, and the dinger, well it energizes that when you open the door with the lights on.....check the light switch.
