Message: Lots.. trans, exhaust, mechanical fuel pump and
rerouted plumbing just to name a few. Dont even
attempt it unless you have very good mechanical
skills, can handle fabrication and have pretty deep
pockets. The last one is only if you want to make it
somewhat street legal.

Message: I have a 1991 reg cab dakota with a 4 banger
that I converted to a 1971 340. Scott S is
correct in that there are many many many
adjustments required. Luckily, there are
numerous kits out there for things like motor
mounts (try schumachers), you will need to
change the oil pan to a rear style with a
winding sump pump. you will need to get a
tranny mount mocked up (see schumacher also).
I used a 904 auto. I swapped out the stock
rear end for a 8 3/4 posi w 3:5:5 ratio
gears. Then you will have to figure out wiring,
and fuel delivery (carb vs injection). Drive
shaft for my truck needed adjustment (also 8
3/4 from b body seemed to fit well without
modification. I also put in a new v8 rad.
This definitely doesn't cover it all (not even
close). But with time, money and perseverance-
anything is possible!
Good Luck,
Low 340 dakota
