I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota 4 door with a 4.7l engine and automatic transmission, the truck drives normally until it shifts into third gear the truck looses power, i can ease up on the accelerator and then press down again and it clears out. Can you someone assist in identifying my problem?

Owner did not change the transmission fluid as outlined in the owners manual.
Drove the truck carrying heavy loads without turning off overdrive, the heavy load may have been his wife or girlfriend.
Problem identified: Replacement transmission needed!!!!!!
