I have a 2002 Dakota sport with the 4.7. First a
little background on my issue... About 6 months ago
I moved from MI to Colorado, an increase of roughly
6000 feet in elevation, about a month after the move
my truck started guzzling fuel. Durring acceleration
and on any sort of incline it sucks down fuel
(anywhere from 4-7 mpg), but while I'm at a cruising
speed it gets excellent fuel mileage (24-26mpg)I
have redone the exhaust front to back including
stock O2 sensors, I have cleaned the Idle Air
mixture valve, and the MAP sensor. And I have taken
the truck to a shop and had a legit scanner hooked
up to it, when I did this it showed a TPS high input
and Ignition Control high input which was corrected
by replacing a 20A fuse for the trailer lights.
After replacing the fuse, I got about 20 min of
great performance out of the truck before it started
acting up again, no the fuse didn't go out again).
This is my first computer controlled vehicle I've
worked on and I'm at a loss here... any help would
be appreciated! Oh and I have a cold air intake on
it, the only thing that isn't stock..

Sounds like too much air entering the engine. Try a free flowing muffler like magnaflow and reset the pcm with a scan tool and you should be good to go!

I failed to mention a few things earlier... when the
truck is in drive with the brake applied, the RPMs
drop to 500 or less with a very rough idle. If I
turn on the A/C the RPMs jump back up to between
650-750 like it's supposed to be... and when the
RPMs drop, the Oil Preassure Guage drops way down,
not zeroing out but entirely way too low!

What you're saying, is you think I have too much
Back Preassure...?

I would say a dirty throttle body or iac but you said you cleaned it out. You could have a clogged cat but that would mean a more noticeable power loss all the time. hard to say what the problem is. maybe try to replace the tps sensor and reset the pcm. I do like the sound of a magnaflow muffler on the 4.7

Yeah, I put a brand new CAT in when I did the
exhaust, I'm going to try a TPS and a different
muffler... Now, I would assume by reset the PCM,
you're just talking about disconnecting the battery
and letting the capacitors in the computer drain,
not getting the PCM flashed, am I right...?

Try checking for codes again. You don't need to go to a shop.
Turn the key on/off/on/off/on and the codes will display in the
odometer as Pxxx and Pdone will appear when it's finished or
there are no codes. Post back with your findings. By the way,
are you leaking any power steering fluid?

I just checked for codes, and there weren't any. My
rack and pinion has a bad seal on the passenger
side, which will be taken care of this weekend.
