 Subject: dakota 4.7 engine 2002 vs 2004

IS there a difference at all between these years
(02 vs. 04)and the 4.7L engine in dodge dakotas in
that. im about to get a new dakota and ones a 02
for 5 grand with 117000 miles or an 04 for 8 grand
and 100000 miles.
the 2004 says is a "next gen magnum" while the
other says nothing special so i assume is a
powertech.
so Is the any difference between the years here as
in what ones better, more powerful ect.
ive been sittin in my 98 dakota with a 3.9 for a
while now (209,000 on the dash and STILL running
good) with the original motor but the trans has an
almost unnoticeable bump between the shifts (its
automatic) and i believe that's the original trans
too... this section here wasn't needed for my
question just bragging about how this truck is
holding up hah... but i gotta get more power now
for work and for fun too!
so any opinions on the different years, goods and
bads will be great and any thoughts on that 3
grand price difference needed too . Both trucks
have about the same mileage and same SLT trims and
both look very good inside and out. both also 2dr
club cabs to add in.

You are going to open up a can of worms trying to
replace a 3.9 with a 4.7. Completely different
engine harness,transmission harness, body harness,
different ECM, PCM, etc,etc.You would have to buy a
4.7 45RFE transmission as well. You would be a LOT
better off replacing a 3.9 with a 5.9.
