I have a 1991 dodge dakota with a 318 in it and when you start it it will start and idle great but once you put it in gear you will go a little ways then the dakota will die. It acts like it is running out of gas but then it will start right back up again and then idle fine till you give it gas then it misses. I changed the fuel pump and the fuel filter and the spark plugs and wires and I don't know what else to do.

Did you check the gas pedal for play?

Yes I did. I was reading in a repair book for a 84 and it said it might be the coil. I don't think a coil would do that would it, I always thought either a coil works or it doesn't

I would say your idle control or throttle position sensor.
