Subject: backward thermostat IP: Logged
Message: have a 2002 4x4 w/4.7L that needed the thermostat housing gasket replaced. After that was done the engine would overheat even thought the outside temp was ~15 deg F. Took it to another shop and they said the first put the thermostat in backwards. Original shop has offered a refund but tech insists that you cant put it in backwards. Is it possible to put the thermostat in backwards????

Message: the idiot that installed your thermostat put it in upside down so that the bleed hole was opposite where it should be. you obviously can't put it in backwards or it would be leaking. tell the mechanic that worked on your pile to quit smoking the reefer

Message: they specifically said backward as in the "jiggle pin" part was on the wrong side relative to flow direction. Any chance you have a schematic/picture. I'm going back to the first mechanic and want to show how it can be done.

Message: No schematic or diagram but I know the bleed hole is supposed to be on top he can't mismatch that if this retard calls himself a mechanic

Message: Just had my 2003 dodge Dakota thermostat
replaced. Mechanic drove it down road and
back. Blew radiator it got so hot.. mechanic
thought it was head issues.. I had it towed
to dealer.. had to replace radiator.. found
out first shop put thermostat in backwards..
they said it's very hard to tell direction
and because of type and location of
thermostat it happens.. cost me almost $500
for radiator, labor and putting thermostat in
correct...I tried make first shop pay.. no
luck..he said he's gonna research it.. I
talked to another shop and they claim it can
happen.. all I know is it's fixed now but
cost me do to a careless mechanic.
