Subject: 4.7 lifter clicking IP: Logged
Message: i have an '01 dakota. ordered it in 2000 and it's the best truck i've ever owned. 4.7 4x4 with a 5-speed and 3.92 diffs. just broke 200k last month. about 4 months ago the oil pressure started dropping while idling and a lifter started clicking at start-up. yes, it has a lot of miles and i assumed wear and tear but i've noticed one odd thing. when i'm going down steep hills it clicks - like it's starving for oil. pressure is still good but it starts clicking. at the bottom of the hill it stops after just a few hundred yards on flat road. it only clicks about a minute at startup and only down hills, never up hills. has anyone noticed this before? can't help thinking there's a simple solution. i keep picturing a leaky oil pump gasket - if it has one. yes i have checked oil level and it's good. even over 200k i've never had to add oil between changes.
i will drive this truck until one of us dies or my kids wreck it.
i appreciate any feedback.
