Richard, the problem you'll have is the tone rings. You have a JTEC PCM which use 16 tooth tone rings. In the late '02-03 model year they went to the NGC PCM, 32 teeth. They are not compatible.
To change the tone ring would require pulling the crank.

I just put a4.7 out of a2002 dodge Durango into a2003 dodge Dakota. The Dakota had a4.7 in it originally. But know I'm not getting any spark.i was told to switch the ecu asked w wiring harness can anyone help me out with this.

I have a 2002 dakota with the 3.9. I want to step
up to a V8 but was wanting to know which would be
the easiest and best to put in it. Also, would it
be better to look for a donor vehicle or could i
just get motor and trans. that is already out.

Isaac: it's likely a tone ring issue from different year engines. On the RH cam look for NGC stamped in the sprocket. If you see it, your PCM MUST have 4 connectors. If it has 3, you're out of luck and need to pull the engine and replace the tone rings.
Michael, put in the 5.9. It's almost a direct bolt in. You can find a PCM for it. The harnesses should match up.
The 4.7 is NOT an easy swap. There are major differences electrically.

OK thanks for the info. While looking around though
I found a 3.9 Cummins diesel. Would that be a
fairly easy swap as well? I can get a good deal on
a running driving donor vehicle on either the 5.9
or the diesel as I have found both. Just wanting to
kinda go outside the box a little

I have a 94 dodge Dakota with a 318 in it that's bad and so is the trans. My friend has a drivetrain out of a jeep that had a 318, would this swap work with all the computers and everything from the newer jeep or should I reuse all the old comps from the Dakota?
