Subject: 4.7 Performance??? IP: Logged
Message: I don't know if anyone is interested in performance for the 4.7 V8 but I installed a K&N intake, Jet Stage 1 computer chip and a stainless Magnaflow exhaust on my 2005 Dakota. The performance gain is phenomenal. I tried using 92 octane gas and noticed even more power and torque improvement. I am considering installing a set of Gibson Ceramic headers and Jet Stage II performance chip to see if I can get the HP above 300 but a professional auto repair friend is telling me that I would be wasting $$$ for the little additional power gain by installing headers as I have already removed the intake and exhaust restrictions with the K&N intake and Magnaflow exhaust. This friend has been a professional auto person for over 30 years and has built many peformance cars. He pointed out that even the late model Corvettes and Mustangs have stock factory manafolds. Any comments???

Message: I have a 2004 with 4.7L have Volant cold air, magnaflow muff, and just put Gibson headers on it. I use a superchips tuner (have tried all of them in the past found this best and most flexible) and this thing is crazy quick and strong. The headers were the last thing I added and it truly makes a noticable difference. Mileage seems better too.

Message: Did you install the headers yourself? There seems to be enough room where it does not appear that I would require a professional shop to intall it. As one of the final performance bolt-ons before I decide to drop in headers, I am installing a Tylor Cable Helix Throttle body spacer. The headers would be my final upgrade. It appears that you can still gain HP after all of the other mods. My mods are similar to yours. My truck is super quick and strong also. Even with a full tank of gas, I seem to constantly spin the tires on dry pavement athough I am not trying to. I am just blown away with how much power this little engine puts out. No compliments on the gas mileage though.
