Subject: New drum brakes creaking IP: Logged
Message: I just put new shoes and turned the drums on my 01 quad cab
and now when I turn slowly the back drums are creaking. It
sounds almost like the shoes are catching. I took. It apart
aging to make sure everything was installed correctly and it all
looks good. I did notice that the shoes don't seem to be
wearing evenly and the tops and bottom were pretty rough. I
cleaned it all again and smoothed the rough shoes down with
some emery cloth and put it all back together again.
I've never had this happen on drum brakes before. Especially
when turning a corner?? I'm thinking I got either bad shoes
or a bad turning job. I checked and the drums seem round
enough to me. No problems braking going straight or high
speeds.
Maybe I just gotta let everything wear down a little?
