Subject: Can the E.C.C be reset? IP: Logged
Message: Is it possible to erase the memory of the Engine Control Computer in a 1993. Curious because it turns out that the one that was in the truck wasn't the correct one. After I replaced it with one I had in my 94 the truck fired right up but eventually began to run like crap. Hesitating on takeoffs and sputtering sometimes when comming to a stop. I put the wrong 93 back in and when I turned it over it wasn't sparking. Then after putting a spare plug in the #1 plug wire and laying it so it was grounded I hit the starter and now there is fire. I put the wire back on the #1 plug and hit the starter. It almost started so I pumped the gas a couple times and almost but still no start. Couple more attempts and same results. Pulled the #1 wire and rechecked for fire and again there was none. So I put the 94 ECC back in turned the key and BAMM fired right up and idled like new. I shut it off and it started right back up, no problem.I'm going to take it for a road test now and see what happens. But like I said it currently has a 94 ECC in it which I am using because the wrong 93 ECC quit working. It was the federal emmissions ECC and I need the California Emmissions ECC. Which costs about $300.00 more. I'm also wonderingf if Pick n Pull sell these or do they strip em out when they get em??
OK appreciate any information anyone might have about this.
Thanks

Message: Have you checked the splice in the wiring harness
just below the fusebox? It is 3 wires into 1. This
splice feeds power to the PCM, Ignition and the Fuel
Pump. It is known to corrode and causes symptoms
such as you're having.

Message: Initially that was the first thing I checked and I did resplice the wires prior to swapping the computer.
