Subject: 200 Dakota 4.7l oil guage issues

well its a 4.7, when i bought it it did and always has ran exceptionally well except for the transmission needs a little work. The engine sounds very healthy and kept up with. It has 208k miles and when we picked it up it seemed the only problem with it is a power steering leak, bad battery hookups and the oil pressure guage would constantly go from normal operating pressure down to 0 for a little bit and then back up throughout the whole time the truck was on. Oil level has been fine and throughout a week of driving it the engine seems to be circulating oil just fine. Today ive fixxed the battery terminals and changed the oil as well as replaced the oil pressure sending unit. I started it up and the oil guage stayed at 0. I let it idle for about an hour after taking it on a quick trip around the neighbrohood and then drove it home from my shop with zero issues axcept for the oil pressure guage saying 0.

So what do I check next? is there a way besides a mechanical guage to get my guage reading properly again? would jumping the wires going to the sensor give me anymore information on this? any other tests i can do to narrow down the problem?

disconnect the switch and ground the wire if the guage goes up the switch is the problem,if not check the wire for an open if its good the cluster pretty much has to be the problem
