Message: My air conditioning unit stopped working recently.
The motor does not even try to kick on when I turn
the A.C. on. I've noticed since this has happened
that the cab gets unbearably hot like the heater
is on, but it isn't. Does the A.C. unit have some
connection to cooling down the motor or the
transmission? I can get by without the air for now
until I can afford to have it fixed, but the temp.
in the cab is a little more than I can handle.
This is a 1999 Dodge Dakota Club Cab with the V8
Magnum 5.2 Liter. Any help would be appreciated.

Message: sounds like the door inside the ac/heater box may be opening or stuck open allowing the heat to go by. Or the vacum lines that control venting. Check to see if the cable is operating the door by sliding the heater control on/off (hot to cold) and feel or put a mirror up under the dash to the top of the heater box. Also check to see if the vacum controls are doing their job as well. That body style is kinda of a pain to check under the dash so a friend might be of help or remove the seats to get better access. A/C unit has nothing to do with cool down. Heater core and A/C "core" are in the same box and only divived by a swing door. Move the door one way you get heat. more it the other you get AC.
Hope this helps.
