Message: I am having a hell of a time trying to seperate the exhaust pipe from the crossover pipe. It was crimped with the standard type exhaust clamp, which came off without breaking the stud. I have been able to work a flat punch around the lip of the pipe to get some space but it just will not seperate. I tried hooking a come-along from the rear axle to the pipe just foreward of the Cat but this thing is seriously stuck. They must have rusted together because I know its not welded at this joint and yet I worked on the damn thing for a few hours yesterday and it has not moved at all. I sprayed em with liquid wrench and let em soak for about half an hour. The two pipes are loose enough to wobble and spin maybe a fraction of an inch in both direction but they're still stuck. I sure hate to have to cut the pipe and sleeve it somewhere else but I can't see any other option. Anyone have an ancient chinese secret they can share with me? I'd be willing to part with a first born child in exchange for the "easiest" way to get these two pipes apart. Only you can not tell the wife about this trade. OK?? Sacrifices have to be made dammit!!! Now I wait for a response packed with knowledge and wrapped with smarts.

Message: You can turn it a little bit but working back and forth doesn't help? Sometimes if you hit it with something to get vibration going, it will help loosen the joint when its well oiled

Message: I have banged on it with various sized hammers and still can not get them apart. I can only turn it a very little bit and I can work it back and forth but space is limited because of the Transmission crossover support. I may end up removing the trany support to get more wiggle room. If I do I can just remove the crossover pipe from the exhaust manifold and take the whole thing out instead of just the one section. But that sure seems like alot of extra work just to change the Cat. and muffler.

Message: Good luck,
I do most of my own maintenance work, but exhaust system work is not one of them, and I leave that work for a shop to do.
Been there done that before, but no more!

Message: A little heat and some PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench should do it. And Howard, no thank you, I do not need another first born.

Message: Not familiar with PB Blaster but I have tried liquid wrench. As for the little heat, I have become very heated during this process as evedenced by the use of the various sized hammers. There just isn't much swing room under there. Oh I've banged on just about everything except what I am trying to get apart and I've knocked plenty of old dried gunk loose. Don't worry about the mess though because most of what I knocked loose ended up in my eyes and mouth. The only stains on the driveway dripped off my bloodied and beaten knuckles. Giving up is not an option, they will come apart sooner or later. As for the first born, I own two Dodge trucks, I can't afford raising children.

Message: I made the mistake of changing my fuel filter without sliding cardboard under it years back. It ate up some of my driveway. Oops Your stains should come out after some time. I do hate that stuff falling in my eyes and mouth. I haven't heard of PB Blaster either.
