Subject: A little help (Homebrew intake not PVC) IP: Logged
Message: A quick question for anyone who has the answers. I was given 2 4inch 90 degree exhaust elbows to make an intake out of. Problem #1 one of the elbows is chrome the other is not. Can i polish the not chrome one to get it somewhere close to the same finish and if so what kind of polish / where do I get it. also where should I mount it, and what should I make the brackets out of. I think I have seen this style of hombrew on here before but I forget where and couldn't find it in a search. thanks for the help.

Message: You need to step it down to 3.5" to fit the throttle body. For now I have a tiestrap holding the intake to the bracket on the intake manifold.

Message: Main reason being don't think I could get it to fit I don't have a auto or a F&B throttle body. The cruise has to be modified as well. It is much better if you fab it up on your truck mark it then just take it down to the local welding shop to get it done. Not to mention cheaper.

Message: As far as polishing, you can try to get it close, but depending on the material it might take a very long time. Personaly, if something is dull looking I start out with fine sand paper and work up in the grits and finnish with 2000, then I go to emery cloth. From there I use one of the Mothers metal polishes with a fairly hard cotton wheel on a bench grinder. The I chang to a softer wheel and use a finnishing polish, I can't remember the name of it at them moment bt I got it at a local hardware store. Lastly I swear by Simichrome polish. It always ends up being the last step and it really makes almost any metal pop. Check out these links for polishing compounds:
