 Subject: Rear Axle gear ratio

I have a 1999 Dodge Dakota 4x4 and need to replace
the rear end according to the information in my
glove box i need a 3.55 ratio but every parts guy
is showing that i need a 3.92 ratio Can someone
help please

Tire size and driving would determine best gear
ratio however, Front and rear have to be the same.
Count the teeth...

I would trust the underhood sticker. There should also be a tasg on the center section of the rear diff. Short of that, the only other way would be to mark the yoke on the diff and mark one wheel, while rotating the wheel one complete revolution, count the number of turns the yoke makes.
