I have a 1999 4X4 with a 318. I shut if off today and when I went to start it again, it started fine but would not idle. If I took my foot off the accelerator it would die. Any ideas??
Thanks Ed

Check fuel filter / pump. My old truck did something similar and it was a bad pump and filter.

Another thing to try my father's van with a 318 did the same thing. Take idle air control motor off and clean it and its seat with carb cleaner. The old man says it is on the back side of the throttle body. Might not be a bad Idea to clean the whole tb as well. Just another thing to check to save you from having to take it to the mechanic

Definately clean the throttle body , I did mine on friday and couldn't believe the difference in throttle response and driveability. Get some Carb cleaner , an old toothbrush , some Q-tips and a throttle body gasket , it took me about 45 minutes from the time that I popped the hood 'til I was driving it. Before I cleaned it the truck sometimes stalled when you put it in gear and was starting to get a rough idle.

That happened to my 99 after 3,000 miles and it was that the battery went dead.
