I have a 99 5.2 4x4 dakota and I had a broken abs sensor on the rear axle. I had to take the rear cover off in order to get all the parts out. When I went to the part store I took my books for my truck up there to make sure I got the right fluid to refill the diff. The part store gave me lucus syn diff fluid and said I didn't need the additive cuz it was made for a ls. So I changed the sensor and added the fluid. Then my rear end started to chatter when taking off and it seems. Like the inside tire is always chirping when turning. So I went back and got the additive and put it in the axle. Still chattering and still dragging-spinning the inside tire. I drove it for a week w/o the additive. Could this have torn it up so it needs replaced ? Or should I change the fluid again and add the additive first ? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY ARECHIATED. Any one else have a similar problem? If so how did u fix it ? Thanks for your time.

In reality your inside tire should chirp a little bit on a tight turn. I replaced my rear fluid and added the additive and it acts the same way. I would say you are fine.

What about the chatter that comes from the rear end on takeoff? It didn't do it until the fluid was changed and they gave me the wrong stuff. Is it repairable ? Or do I need to buy a new ls.

if it chatters on a straight line take off I would say you need to replace the LS. I would put in a locker if you go that route.

Check out the "Powertrax" by Eaton. It is a true mechanical locker.

Thanks ill have to look into it. Does any one have any inexpensive mods to boost my mpg ? I get 11 now w my 4x4. A friend of mine has a full size ram w the 360 and he gets 18 round town w no mods but k&n filter and flowmaster 50 w duel 3in outs. He said he was getting 16 b4 the mods but that's hard to believe. I have a smaller truck and smaller engine I should be doing better then him right?
