2002 Dodge Dakota, 4.7 engine, 4x4, quad cab
Parked for a year.
Battery being drained. New Alternator, New Battery, New Idle Control Valve, new serpentine belt to rule out slipping. (all self diagnostic codes pointed to idle control system, cleared with new ICV) Only code that shows now is P0505. Battery gauge drops past Low, Fuel gage drops below empty even with full tank. Oil pressure, temperature, odometer and RPM guages, still functioning. Check guages and service engine soon lights stay on. All lights come on (Service engine, Parking brake, Seat belt, ABS, Check guages, and chime) when battery is drained and once battery dies all dash functions flicker on and off then shut down while truck is still running. If anything electrical is used at this point, it kills the truck. Thought it was grounding issue. Cleaned terminals and all wire connections to and from battery to include starter connections. All fuses checked under hood and in CAB, all vacumes checked, all wiring under dash checked, all grounding wires under hood checked and cleaned. Tried resetting PCM by disconnecting Neg battery terminal for about 30 seconds (no change). While truck was running, disconnected Positive terminal, (old-school alternator test) and the truck instantly dies. With key on start, checked the wiring of alternator with multi-meter, no current registered. Alternator tested three times at AutoZone, registers good. Any other ideas what could solve the issue? I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance.
