I have a 97 dakota 5.2, i had a problem with the headlights. i changed the multi switch and the headlights worked for 3 months. i have replaced the switch again and the headlights worked for annother month or so, i now have no low beams and no tail lights. i dont want to keep replacing the switch, any ideas why this keeps happing would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance, dan hicks

check the connector to the head light switch its more than likly melted if it is relace the connector and switch and get a new switch assembly for in the steering column

oh yea check all grounds umder the hood for the lighting harness and check under the dash behind the kick panels

thanks for your response, fixed a ground prob with the headlights. they are now functioning properly, i still have tail light issues. i checked the connection between harnesses under the brake booster i have power there but not at the third connection at the bumper. I now believe it has to do with the trailer light connection.

whatdoes your truck have that split harness for the trailer ? just replace it

Those trailer wiring "T"s are annoying. If you have any
double wires into one side of a connection start there first,
that's where I found my problem. Tho my truck is missing
the driver side connector and the wires are just splices nd
connected together (thanks to whoever had it b4 me) so I
had to cut one plug off the harness to splice it in... also
check the grounds for the tail lights. Inside the area u pull
them out of
